Eleanor Grace was born on May 31 at 3:50 am.
She is doing fine, she has a bit of jaundice. But we are home now and resting. I'll update with pics and birth story when I get a chance. I went to the hospital at 1:23 am at 4cm, and delivered her naturally at 3:50 am !!!
On Monday, I had contractions through out the day but they were 8-9 minutes apart. So, I didn't think anything of them. Then around 9:30 pm they were exactly 6 minutes apart on the dot. This lasted for 3 hours. I had 2 soft bms, and decided to wake up dh. I called the on-call dr. and she said to come to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, the contractions got a little stronger and were 4-5 minutes apart.
We checked in at 1:23 am and I was at 4cm. Which kind of bummed me out, because I didn't want to be at the hospital laboring forever. Well, right after they checked me, my water broke. It hit me at this point that we were going to have a baby.
They moved me into my room around 2:15am, and the contractions were getting stronger and less time in between. I tried to focus through them, but it was hard. I asked the nurse about pain relief, and she said she could give me a shot to take the edge off. So, I got the shot. It worked for maybe 2 contractions. Then, she checked me. I was at 7cm. At this point I am writhing in pain in my bed with each contraction. I start asking for another shot, saying that I can't do this anymore. I knew in my head though, that this meant I would deliver soon. She said that she wanted to check me and I said that I had to go to the bathroom. She checked me and I was at 9.5cm.
I asked for my shot again, and she said that I was going to deliver soon. I felt an overwhelming need to push, but they kept telling me to wait. And breathe. Which was annoying. The dr, wasn't there yet, so they didn't want me to push. But I did anyways. It felt so much better to push. I remember asking where the doctor lived and why it was taking her so long. Finally, she walked in the room and said that I could push. My first push, I pushed the head out, and the second push the rest of her came out.
I tore a little and she gave me a few stitches. I'm glad that the nurse didn't offer me the spinal shot. I thanked her afterwards, and she said that she knew the baby was coming fast, and I would have still been in labor if I would have had the spinal.
They put her right on my chest, where she stayed for quite awhile. She weighed in at 6 lbs. and 4 ozs, 18 inches long. She is beautiful. It took the first day to have her get the hang of latching on, but she is doing great now. She has some jaundice, so we have to tak her back to the hospital and have her billirubin levels checked again. Hopefully we won't have to be re-admitted. But she is here and healthy and I love her so much!
