Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself since father's day is still a month away, but are any of you doing something for your dh on father's day or getting him a gift? If so, could you share with me your ideas? This will be my first baby so I've never done father's day stuff for anyone but my own father before and I'm not sure what I should do.
Thanks,
Hilary

Well, my dh isn't big on gifts for himself, so I usually cook him a nice meal and have my mom watch the kids But it's supposed to be "bad luck" to celebrate mother's day/father's day before the birth of your first child

There's a series of 3 books for Daddys by Armin Brott... one is for Dad's to be, one is about the first year, and the third is for the toddler years.

I gave Eric the first year one for the father's day that happenned the month before Lindsey arrived. He liked it because it was divided out by age.. he could read a chapter a month and have a clue what was going on.

I think this is the first year I am going to actually get a gift for DH and it is only because we can finally afford it. Usually I get him a nice card and he can do whatever he wants no nagging from me

This year he is having a Napoleon Dynamite theme. I was going to get him a Vote for Pedro shirt and the CD.

Bad luck??? I have never heard that! When I was pg with dd my dh got me flowers and a card and it was the nicest thing ever!!!

Anyhow, I would love to give my dh a baby for father's day!!! LOL I will probably have dd make him something though and get him a (lmao) box of wine! It is dh's guilty pleasure!

There are so many good books that address new dad concerns...I would totally do that (and think, I did, actually).

You could get him a little something to play with the babe, depending on his interests -- like a child sized soccer or football or baseball glove, or a pot of paints, a small kite, etc. Something for him to look forward to. I have one friend who got her DH matching baseball hats -- one his size, one baby size, so they could watch games "together."

Here we pretty much do nice meal and DD made card.

nothing for DH but I'm getting my Dad some special cables for his TV to make it clearer (it's so useful to have a DH who gets along good w/ Dad, he knows just what my Dad would want! lol). DH didn't give me anything for mother's day although a couple people gave me stuff which was surprising because I also always thought it was considered bad luck.

This is DH's 3rd actual fathers day. I cant remember but I dont think I got him anything for the one while I was pregnant - which wasnt very nice of me because he got me a digital camera for the mother's day I was pregnant :

For his first actual fathers day, Maxi was 6 months old and I used those foam letter things to spell out "I love you" and took pics of Maxi holding each word (so one pic holding "I", one w/ "love" and one w/ "you") and put them in a frame for him. For his second fathers day (last year) we got him a sweater and Max made something for him at pre-school (he was 18 months).

This year I got him a play station 2 because he has been dying for one. We wont be able to be with him but I am shipping it to Taiwan to hopefully cheer him up - he is bored there so this should be an great way to entertain himself too.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I'm still not sure what I'm going to do but hearing what you all are doing/have done certainly helps.
