Noah Gabriel was born 8/27 at 5:27 a.m., weighing 9 lb 8 oz, 21-1/2 inches long. I woke at about 2:15 or 2:30 with contractions that were about 10 minutes apart, progressing rapidly to 8 minutes apart and then 5 by about 3 or 3:15. Woke DH, called DH's parents and the midwife. She said to meet her at the birth center at 4:30. Transferred DS#1 to his grandparents at about 4:15 a.m., contractions every 2-3 minutes and hard. I leaned against DH and rocked through them. Arrived at the birth center at 4:30 or 4:45 and got checked. I was 8 cm with a bulging bag of water so they filled the tub and I climbed in with DH. Water broke a few contractions later and I had just a lip of cervix. Midwife reassured me to just listen to my body and push through it. I did and Noah was born at 5:27 in the tub. The midwife stretched my perineum as best she could but he wasn't slowing down for anything to allow stretching so I had a tear. We cuddled for a few minutes and he got to go to dad while I tried to deliver the placenta without luck. So we tried the toilet, still no luck.
After 2 hours and no placenta and no signs of separation I had to be transported to the hospital via ambulance. It was less than a mile away and the midwife had called ahead so we went right to labor and delivery with the MD and anesthesiologist aware. I got some pain meds and they tried to manually deliver it without luck. Sonogram showed no separation at all so I was prepared for the OR for curettage to remove it. I had lost very little blood up to that point but it was picking up rapidly so off we went to the OR, where they were able to remove it with relatively little difficulty and sew up a tear while I was under anesthesia.
In the meantime, dad and baby were back at the birth center. Baby was absolutely fine and stable but they came to the hospital to admit him to keep us together. We spent overnight in the hospital and came home the next morning.
I'm still a little weak due to the blood loss but feeling better each day and the little guy is doing great, a good latcher (much better than DS #1) though a bit jaundiced. We are settling in. :-)
