When we got to the hospital contractions were between 2-4 minutes apart, so they gave me magnesium to stop the labor and steriod shots for baby's lungs. My dr. was *wonderful* as was my husband. The dr.'s best guess is that the baby will be here in 10-12 days (my due date is 10/16). I'm 70 percent effaced and the head is fully engaged. She was able to feel his head easily during my check. I'm on bed rest - obviously - and feeling a tiny bit overwhelmed. Good news is that baby looks great and should be just fine - she said generally babies over 34 weeks (I'll be that on Monday) don't need breathing help and go home with momma.

Thinking of you!!! I know you're likely frightened, but hang in there and know that your baby is likely to do just fine. Did they do a fetal fibronectin test?

Thanks, all! Rachel, I've never even heard of that test - what is it?

edit: Ok, I looked it up. I did not have anything like that. Could be because they don't do it around here, or the fact that my dr. wanted my vaginal/cervical area messed with as little as possible. When I went in the nurses said they'd have to call her before performing a vaginal check because she was "funny" about them - thank goodness! I only had 2 done the entire time I was there and both by my dr. She just said she didn't see the point of irritating my cervix anymore than it already was.

(hugs)!!
Hopefully, the baby hangs in there and cooks as long as it needs to to be born healthy and ready to go home!
Good luck!

Normally I'd agree about unnecessary checks, but the fetal fibronectin is really worth looking at in cases of PTL. A negative result means there's a greater than 98% chance that your pregnancy will continue beyond the next two weeks, which can have an impact both on your peace of mind and the treatment decisions you make. A positive result is less helpful-- it means you might go into labor or might not. But that's a substantial piece of information worth knowing.

Thinking of you!

My doc has threatened me with bed rest, but so far.... so good. I go in for a non-stress test on Tuesday, so things might change.
I have already prepared a list of books I expect my partner to find for me should I be locked in bed. The good news- no more dishes!!

GOOD LUCK. I hope everything goes well. I know how scary this can be!

Ok, I'm beginning to think this baby is something of a brat!

My dr. checked me again, and said there is *more* cervix there now than there was the other week when I went into labor. So...not so certain baby will come early anymore. She told me I can now get up enough so that I don't go insane, so I guess you can call it partial bed rest. Good news is that she said they'll deliver the baby at this point if I go into labor (no more nasty nasty mag!!). She has also cleared us to resume intercourse next week when I hit 36 weeks, going so far as to say that if it put me into labor so be it. I've been having lots of contractions that just peter out after about an hour, so who knows what's gonna happen at this point. DH said just to plan for November 1. :LOL

When I was admitted to the hospital for pre-e, I was dialated to 2 centimeters. After 5 days of bedrest, when they induced, I was only 1cm. I think bedrest gives your cervix a rest and it decides to go back to the way it was. LOL

Well, I'm glad you're off bedrest now! And I'm glad you don't have to have anymore mag!!! That stuff is just AWFUL!

Good luck!
