Already seen it.

I know the couple that had the baby in a cabin in Wisconsin... and not-on-the-show my cousins wife had her third child not even knowing she was in pregnant until she went to the ER for severe stomach pain and turned out she was in labor. (Just before anyone asks how, she was breastfeeding and caught the first egg... thought baby kicks were phantom kicks we all get and was trying to lose weight "but just couldnt" when in reality she was gaining baby while losing fat... she did it healthily though so the baby was perfectly fine!)

I saw this the other day. Or one in the same shows on TLC.
One lady had her baby in a toilet!

I understand some people not knowing for medical/time of life/physical reasons, but I've got to say it'd be PRETTY HARD for me not to notice!

Srsly?!

With my son I woke up one morning feeling like I was going to hurl and knew right there. Bought a test that night and sure enough, pregnant.

Do these women have no first trimester misery or how does this work exactly? Not to mention growing that baby belly feels nothing like getting a fat belly (I know, I've had both)! Hm. I simply don't understand how someone could be that out of tune with her own body.

Lots of ways, being on birth control pills and thinking no period is normal... (she used an antibiotic... rendering the birth control useless) or catching first post partum egg while breastfeeding (like my cousin)

the other ladies have interesting ways too. Basically, by not trying to conceive this is very possible.

Yeah, but physical factors ESPECIALLY toward the end!

I could see how a large woman wouldn't be able to tell with your factors listed combined with her body...

I know someone who knew she was pregnant but didn't tell anyone until the end--right up until she delivered we couldn't tell primarily because her initial size/shape did not change.....:

I know someone who did that too...
and she went to prison for what she did after :/

she's actually the sister of the cousin whos wife just plain didn't know (but i no longer consider HER a relative)

but in a first-time pregnancy if you don't know you're pregnant the end symptoms can completely confuse you... any symptom can really.

If you're even slightly larger, or carry right full term you could jsut think you're bloated (and man, that constipation doesnt hurt that theory anye!)

Oh geez... I can't believe I watched that show. I should have been sleeping instead since DS and DH were sleeping. But... it was like a train wreck and I just couldn't look away.

I can see how these women didn't know. They didn't gain weight (or only gained 10 lbs), they were still getting periods (or what they thought were periods), getting BFNs... and at least in the scenerios I saw, they gave birth about 2 months early -- and I've seen many pregnant women who don't pop until after 7 months. Well, not many... but a few.

I could barely stand watching the show, though, being so worried about those babies. But I guess they were only showing happy endings.

...

By the way, I saw the one with the woman who had the heart condition. I couldn't BELIEVE her boyfriend didn't go to the hospital with her. WTF? So she ended up passed out on their lawn for who knows how long while doofus was just sleeping soundly in bed and waiting for her to call him when she arrived at the hospital? W...T....F???? I also can't BELIEVE I got so sucked into this show that I got mad at the bf for not going to the hospital with her.

OK... I gotta go to bed.

Hmm, maybe I'm wrong since I didn't watch it last night though I did watch it last time the show was on. But didn't she insist her husband stay home and sleep because he had to work or something? I mean it doesn't make sense to us, but this is a woman who has had health problems her whole life and probably didn't it was something he needed to hang around the ER dealing with, when she could do it herself.

I think my 'favorite' one was where the end was all "Even though she had gained weight, been emotional, and felt movement - - she still didn't know she was pregnant."

Seriously?? Did anybody see that one? I forgot what episode it was. I don't see how you could feel movement and not at least consider it a possibility! I guess for a lot of them it's just been so ingrained in their minds that they CAN'T get pregnant that they ignore even obvious signs.

Poor babies. Lesson from the show - if your mama doesn't know she's pg or in labor -you will be born and (a) immediately be dropped into a toilet bowl or (b) fall onto the cement floor of a public bathroom and whack your head and have your umbilical cord rip. Loved the dad that sees his wife screaming in pain (standing in a public bathroom at the campground), glimpses something emerging from her vagina and assumes it's her INTESTINES and runs for a phone to call 911. Wouldn't a baby be the first thing you assume is coming out of your wife, versus seemingly spontaneous self-DISEMBOWLEMENT??? I guess I would just think that the former is a more likely scenerio than the latter, KWIM?

And none of the people around the women told them to LIE DOWN or decided to check and see. I think a birth would be my first assumption without that amount of abdominal pain.

I couldn't stand the dire, scare-mongering of the "experts" and voice-overs. As *we* obviously know here are PLENTY of women that do have safe homebirths and UCs. In normal pregnancies (which was the situation in at least a few of the stories) there really isn't that much need for medical intervention and that much prenatal monitoring. If you listened to the "advice" of the show, all preggos need be on restricted activity and under intense scrutiny of a team of OBs, for crying out loud, lest SOMETHING HAPPEN TO THE BABY!!!! It was so threatening, which was irritating.

ZOMG, YES!!!!!!!!! "Um, honey? I'm having horrible pain and discomfort, perhaps it's a heart attack. I'm just going to drive myself over to the ER. No worries, you enjoy your nap now, dear." Unbelievable.

I had carpal tunnel surgery last week and am finding all of these medical reinactment shows to be the best for insomnia!!

Mama to DS (8) and DD (7) Aristotle was not Belgian. The central message of Buddhism is not "Every man for himself." And the London Underground is not a political movement.

I agree. I especially couldn't believe the ones that had been pregnant already in the past didn't recognize the feeling?! How odd. I'm thinking some of these people hide the pregnancies on purpose because their S/O may not want it or something.

Oh and the one guy really ticked me off who had the girlfriend that said she was going to drive herself to the ER on her own in the middle of the night while he stayed in bed asleep. : Then she collapsed on her lawn and her neighbor found her and the baby was delivered in her livingroom. That one upset me mainly because her B/F should have wanted to drive her to the hospital regardless of whether or not he had to work the next day. That one upset DH as well. He was like WTF is he thinking! How inconsiderate.

I feel for the women. The ones with no particular symptoms, extremely minimal weight gain, and/or the ones who are 100% convinced that their bodies are incapable of having children ... I can sort of understand. The show itself is flat-out irriating though. Do they really need a voiceover on every single dramatization informing us that "she had no prenatal care" ... um, duh. "She had no pain medication" ... yeah, she didn't know there was a baby until the head was coming out, no epi is neither stunning nor the end of the world. Etc, etc, etc. I know they need to fill the space with something, but you'd think the something could rise above the level of drivel.

Which of course didn't stop me from watching. I went one trimester without knowing I was pregnant ... beyond that I'd have had to have been outright thick-headed. To that point even I was being pretty thick-headed, much though I may have had an excuse at the time. It's fascinating to me to hear the explanations of women who manage to go nearly or completely full term without a clue.

Yeah, I have watched this show twice and I can not let go of the whole "OMG! NO PRENATAL CARE!!!" element of it. Like a fetus will cease to develop unless a doctor has done whatever the hell these people think is done during routine prenatal care. I dunno, maybe I'm not doing enough for my clients or something, lol.

For my part, I wish I could be pregnant and not know it instead of spending 5 months barfing my head off and 10 months getting as big as a mack truck.

I'm bumping this thread because I recently saw one of those shows. What entertained me was the frequent statement by the narrator that "her water broke on its own." Amazing! I thought waters only broke when the doctor used that crochet hook-type thing to break it!

yeah they actually say it on one. that it broke on its own(it was insinuated that thats almost impossible) but if you get care like you are supposed to, the medical professional will do it during labor.

wow i hate the over and over of he they didnt get care, so so many thigs can be wrong with the baby. argh! because going to a doc is going to stop anything from going wrong! :
