I too can't warm up to the new host....Padma is missed!

I really liked Rick Bayless and was so glad her beat the French dude, what an attitude!

My kids want to know when we can try some of the things they make LOL

We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Was it on this week? My DVR didn't tape anything, and all the reruns coming up are of previous episodes, nothing new for this week. I hope I didn't miss it!

This week was just a rerun, I think... I saw the preview for the next episode and it's next Wednesday.

On a side note, Rick Bayless is my new chef crush.
I have a feeling Rick knew to do a taco from the word "streetfood" and go. DUH. I have a tongue and a few livers as well as a heart in my freezer from our beef side. Now I want to have my own organ grinding or girls and guys w guts party. DH is planning on making tongue tacos w the tongue soon.

As far as crush- Nah. I have met him a few times at his restrnts, eating and also his business was on of my clients, and I own a few of his cookbooks (one autographed). He is an extremely nice person, but not a hottie such as fabio on the show. I guess more for you then!

I also love his show on PBS.

This is the first episode of Top Chef, ever, where every single thing looked completely gross! And I am a great appreciator of fine food and an adventurous eater. it was all raw fish and unappetizing combinations. Even those soft cooked eggs that got rave reviews looked mushy and gross. And who would want pink sterno smeared on their dinner?? When the daikon "scallop" opened up to reveal steak tartare, I felt nauseous! I hope next week is a little more palatable! And I thought it was too ironic that the quickfire would involve tying their arms behind their backs, when the one chef's father was born with one arm! It did seem a little un-PC!

i enjoyed it, but could not believe the potty mouth on wylie. it's funny how much they change from being judges to being competitors.

i was rooting for graham (he was the most likeable and his food seemed interesting). both the ladies bored me (especially the winner).

agreed. what a spoiled brat he was. i couldn't believe he made that comment about rick copying him. i mean c'mon. i'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing when he arrived at the market.

I liked Ludo-it was Bayless that got on my nerves. I would have liked for Wilo to have won that round.

So who watched last night?

I really liked all the chefs but the one from Vegas. Michael from Napa- I remember him from some pbs shows. I forgot how cute he was! He is aging gracefully.

I wanted the younger chef from Denver to win so the hospital could get the $$ since I can relate myself but I enjoyed him on the show.

I never knew basil as a dessert flavor was so revolutionary. I don't know, maybe I've just watched too much Iron Chef.

oh, really, i liked rick. was disappointed that he couldn't even get out a quickfire, but was impressed with how he came fighting back. i liked 'em all but the one who won. he was just too smug. and a little creepy with the female diners.

i thought the same thing. when he mentioned he was using it, he seemed so pleased with himself. i was thinking, "basil? typical!" i was surprised the judges seemed so blown away by it.

I think Anita Lo is going to win. She seems to cook circles around everyone.

I still Michael Chiarrello...sigh. I was scared by Art Smith's lamb & egg ball.

i think anita might win as well. the lady can cook. i was sure art was going home (until suzanne served up some cold grouper -- YUCK!) i'm surprised art's made it this far.

so, what are they doing? whittling it down to three chefs for the final cook off? if so, i'm guessing it'll be anita, rick and hubert.

what did everyone think of this week's challenge??

it's funny that she said she watches every week - every season someone on here comments that a REAL challenge would be to make vegan meal LOL - she probably said the same thing & then said "I know, I'll ask them to go on the show and MAKE them make me a vegan meal"

I'm Andrea - I have three boys - 12 year old twins & an 11 year old

I'm sorry Art went home; he seemed like a genuinely sweet and caring individual. Bad call on the store-bought rice cream, though!

It was a bit annoying that they were SO put off by making a vegan meal, I mean, at least where I come from, that is pretty normal stuff and they seemed utterly shocked, perplexed, and horrified by it. Any good chef I would imagine wouldn't need to be completely dependent on meat, and can make a great meal out of anything- which they ultimately did!

Those tamales looked good! So did the pasta. Anita sure did have an off night. I hope she bounces back next week.

I loved Art. Bad on the ice cream, though. Bad.

Honestly, when Zoe (love her!!) was describing her food requirements, all I could think was, "What the heck does she EAT?" Then at the end she says all she usually eats is raw vegetables. I thought the chefs were pretty creative to come up with some decent dishes that fast being so far out of their comfort zones. I think they were more put off by not being able to use diary or wheat than the meat. All of them are used to doing vegetarian versions at their restaurants. But, to not be able to use cream, eggs, butter, cheese and even pasta??? I think that's what threw them for a loop!

I could see the final three being Hubert Keller (for sure!), Rick Bayless, and I forget his name...the Italian chef guy. I think Anita will go home next week unless the challenge is right up her alley.

I like all the finalists. It's so hard to pick a favorite.

The judges sure go easy on these contestants, don't they? I know it's because they are professionals and well known in their fields. I really like that British critic with the floppy hair. Maybe they can bring him in for the regular season of Top Chef.

I can't wait for the new season of Top Chef with Padma and Tom. I've missed them. *sob*

We just said that last night while watching, we miss (well DH does) Padma and Tom. I always remember someone always commenting they think Tom is hot. Cannot wait for that when TCVegas starts.

I knew when Art bought the rice milk ice cream he was a goner. Buying something ready made nearly always results in a loss. He could have done something with chocolate or nuts or fruit. I think he had a lot more desert options than he realized but perhaps desert is not his forte.

What's up with Dale losing his temper like that? Granted Michael was overbearing but still...

I love Hubert and Rick. I think Rick Bayless is hot.

I do not like Michael at all...he needs to get over himself already...he is really a poor sport...his facial expressions ans comments irk me...I like Rick and Hubert for different reasons...I thought Hubert was going to be this stuffy/snobby person...sorry for thinking about the French in a stereotypical way... but he really proven himself otherwise. Rick just seems like a nice guy, kinda a bit of an underdog type of personality that makes you like him.

i never liked him, but now i REALLY don't like him. what a jerk. "what's my name?" i love what richard said, "if someone asks 'what's my name' they deserve to have it pronounced wrong". what a total egomaniac that guy is. i really wanted him to go home, but am almost glad he didn't. if he had, he'd just be blaming his sous chefs.

what happened to anita? she was so great in the beginning.

i'd be happy if either rick or hubert wins. anyone but michael.

can't wait until next week. top chef masters finale and top chef las vegas premiere!

I got to watch this at my parent's house (we don't have cable) and loved it.

I actually liked Michael Chiarello more than I ever have... just by how he was friends with Rick. But his going on about the quinoa pasta like he discovered something new just kind of irked me. I've seen quinoa pasta for yeeeeaaarrs, Michael. It's really not that revolutionary. :

I felt bad for Art. He seems like a nice guy. He should have just pulled out a spoon and tasted a few of the ice creams. The new coconut milk by Turtle Mountain is really good...and would have worked. But of course, he would never know that if he hadn't tried it. Even the joys of earth balance margarine are not going to be known by somebody unused to making vegan food. Add on to that gluten-free and no soy... yikes!

I think dessert was one of the more difficult courses given the requirements. Vegan, fine. But vegan gluten-free, dairy free....and you want to go beyond fruit salad or sorbet? Much more difficult.
