Here are the criteria:
*We prefer shows on DVD (we don't have cable and only get one network channel, and its fuzzy!)

*DH is an english language learner, so the show either has to be fairly easy to follow or have spanish dubbing or subtitles available on DVD)

*He doesn't like most typical American sit-coms, either because they are mostly inane or because he doesn't understand the jokes well enough to think they are funny

*Here are other shows he likes:
-CSI-Las Vegas (for some reason he can't get into the other CSIs)
-Heroes
-Lost
-Always Sunny in Philadelphia
-True Blood
-The Tudors (but I think its not really the story grabbing his attention here!)
-Weeds

We tried Dexter and couldn't get into it. We watched 2 or 3 episodes.

Does anyone watch 24? how is that?

Thanks!

We love 24. I bet he'd enjoy it.

I was going to suggest Dexter, but you already tried it.

NCIS! They have it out on dvd's, and believe it has subtitles, or closed captioning.

I couldn't get my dh to watch 24, and then finally he sat for just one episode and he's been hooked for 4 seasons now! He already has the dvr set to record it starting Sunday.

Another one he has gotten to like is Bones and Criminal Minds. Those two I have to wait for him to watch with me off the DVR.

Firefly is an older (2002? 03?) series available on DVD and hulu, but only 5 episodes at a time up. Elsewhere online the others are available, too. The first is up right now. It does have closed captioning on hulu and the DVD. The DVD might also have subtitles.

A friend recently suggested the series to me, and I really fell for it. There was only one season and then it was brought back as a (poorly marketed) movie.

Happy wife to DH superhero.gifand mama to DS signcirc1.gif11/05 and DD energy.gif8/07.

My dh likes Fringe. The first season is available on DVD. Our copy says it is subtitled in Spanish.

It is also by JJ Abrams (who did Lost) so he might like it.

Firefly is great.

We like similar shows and have enjoyed Californication and recently became addicted to Friday Night Lights. Both are available on netflix instant!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, if he liked True Blood...
The first few seasons of Buffy can be really corny, but the seasons get better quality as it goes on. There are 7 seasons.

Big Love is a good show, but I'm not sure how difficult it would be for him to follow.

I think he would really like Alias. It's about secret agents and easy to get sucked into.

Momma to Sweet Rosie 7/06, Lost Baby J 1/09 at 12 weeks pregnant, Spitfire Ada born 4/21/10, and Baby Boy due July/August 2013!

I also suggest House! It's my favorite show.

Might also try:
West Wing
Modern Family (it's a sit-com, I guess, but no laugh-track and very well written)
Sports Night (same as above)
Arrested Development

I think Burn Notice would be good. It's about a CIA agent who has been "burned" or forced out. He doesn't know why but, while he's trying to figure it out, he's working as sort of a private detective. Well, not really a private detective but, a guy who know how to get stuff done. So, he's involved in a lot of difficult situations. It's pretty action packed, good, interesting stories, great characters. I really enjoy it.

It's in my all-time Top 10 for sure. Did you watch Sports Night, abimommy? Same thing, just set in a Sports TV channel office. But all that walking-while-talking.

Okay, this one is violent, which I usually can't handle, but the acting, writing, and directing are so excellent that I make an exception--The Wire. DH and I both love it--many critics consider it the best television series of all time, with good reason. We also both loved Six Feet Under. I'm fairly certain that both have Spanish subtitles available on the DVDs.

Northern Exposure. tons of episodes, really focused on characters and subtle, yet funny and wacky.

Parks and Recreation is cute. I watch it on Hulu.
