But the writer's took it even further this season by contrasting this Sideways "purgatory" with the Island itself. Remember when Michael appeared to Hurley, he said he was not allowed to leave the Island. Just like the MIB. He wasn't allowed into this sideways world and thus, was not afforded the opportunity to move on. Why? Because he had proven himself to be unworthy with his actions on the Island. He failed the test. The others, passed. They made it into Sideways world when they died
I like this.

I don't understand why people like Sayid and Locke could move on, but Michael couldn't. Was Michael more "bad" than those two? If anything, he did what he did for his son so his motivation was understandable.
He might not be able to forgive himself just like Ben couldn't forgive himself, but I don't understand why Michael would be punished more than some others who did far worse things in their lives and yet they "passed the test" and got the opportunity to move on.

Probably cuz the actor that played Walt was too old to come back to the show, and they wouldn't want Michael to "move on" without Walt. So they came up with that lame a$$ excuse instead.

I agree about Sayid. I don't think he should have been able to move on. I agree with the PP that the reason Michael couldn't move on is because they couldn't bring Walt back due to his age.

Why shouldn't Locke have moved on though? He was good. He had faith in the island. He had faith in everyone. Unless you're confusing Locke with MIB/Flocke, then I must be missing something.

I think eventually Locke resolved the issues he had. However, I didn't see Locke as entirely good. He's complex. He killed Naomi with his knife. His character got a lot darker after that and that was before he was taken over by MIB. He tied up Miles, shoved a live grenade into his mouth, and made him hold it there as punishment for breaking the rules. Locke had Sawyer kill Locke's father...I might be forgetting other things Locke did, but he was quite dictatorial as a leader.

I think they need to have a series about Ben and Hurley taking care of the island. Claire, Sawyer, Kate, and Desmond would visit them from time to time, and new people would be lured over to see if they have the potential to be Protector. I would watch a show like that!

dawningmama - I love the link.
