Anyone watch this? I've seen Lisa Kudrow's episode and most of Emmett Smith's (interferes with my Ghost Whisperer and I have a hard time deciding which one to watch ). I bawled like a baby during Lisa's episode. More than once. When she read out loud how all those people were massacred I completely lost it. It's nothing I didn't know, we went through Holocaust history in school, but hearing it from a family member while they stood at the actual location just made it more real.

It looks like Sarah Jessica Parker already went through it, and Matthew Broderick is coming up soon, I think it'll be cool for their kids to have such a detailed history.

I love this show. I missed the Lisa Kudrow episode. I bawled during the Emmit Smith one.

I taped both of them and can't wait to watch them. I saw the preview on Oprah, and cried when I saw Lisa at the place where the people were killed. So heartbreaking!

Have you watched Faces of America on PBS? It's really neat as well. It makes me wonder about my family history, and how we really are all connected.

I cried like a baby during Lisa Kudrow's too. I only saw bits and pieces of Emmet Smith's. Sarah Jessica Parker's was really interesting w/ all the stuff about the Salem Witch Trials.

I love stuff like this. My granddad is really into genealogy so I have a big family tree and know lots of family history. I find it completely fascinating.

I also love watching African American Lives on PBS whenever I happen to catch it. It came before Faces of America. In one episode Dr. Gates makes Chris Rock cry w/ what he learned about his ancestors.

I've seen a couple of episodes of the original British version. They were really interesting.

I have seen them all so far, I really find that sort of thing interesting.

Some are so heartbreaking. I cried during Lisa Kudrow's and Emmet Smith's episodes

I saw the guy who did the Faces of America on the Colbert show it was all really fascinating. Some of those are on the PBS website

I didn't watch it because it's a ripoff of a PBS show that aired right before hand. I hate it when the regular media runs about a month behind PBS/NPR and makes out like it's some big deal or news.

Faces of America
I am a fan of the PBS show Faces of America and my first thought was also that this new show is a rip off of Faces of America.

I have TWO PBS stations. *preens*

I like both shows The Who Do You Think You Are seems like one huge Ancestry.com commercial but it is ok.

I wasn't as interested in the Brook Shields one, I liked the ones that talked about more normal/real types.

What do you mean ? Oh, the "royalty" in her line? We're ALL related to royalty! My MIL does genealogy, and she's found royalty in her family's line three different places. If you go back far enough, it's there.

Oh that isn't it so much. So much of history is already dedicated to royalty, it is interesting to hear about the normal people. I was disappointed they didn't look at her mom's side more.

Much of my family is NA so we aren't really going to have a history like that. Some of the family that did migrate is traced to the 1500s. I don't know of any royalty on it but I would have to look at it. I didn't actually do that legwork

How did Ancestry or the creators of this show choose the celebs? Did they look into the genealogy first to see who had good stories before casting them?
