I was on vacation, and missed the first 5 minutes of last week's ER. Can anyone tell me what was in the letter that had everyone so upset? I'd like to get up to speed for the next episode, which is his goodbye. Thanks!

Well, at first it was just a general "hi, how are you?" type letter. He described what he was doing and how the girls were doing. He said he was glad he had worked in the ER with all of them. Then it ended abruptly and was followed by a letter from Elizabeth saying that Mark had died. Everyone was very upset, obviously.

Anyone else watch last night? Mark rocking the baby and Rachel letting the balloon go.

I was such a wreck last night! And I'm not even a big ER fan!

I cried so hard and then I couldn't sleep last night! That's sad!

There is a recap of "The Letter" that includes the full text of the letter. There is also a version with the (partial?) text of the letter and the actions and comments of the assembled ER staff interspersed. It is heavily editorialised by someone who is not a fan of the show.

It's Saturday night, and after a long, hard day with my fussy 30 mo dd who took two hours to finally go to sleep, I sat down to watch my tape of the last ER episode. I haven't cried so much over a television show in my entire life! It's all I can do not to run into the bedroom and hug my daughter so tightly (I would, but I don't want to wake her up!). The picture of him rocking his baby to sleep, and later when Rachel has him listen to "somewhere over the rainbow...." -- oh wait, I'd better stop or I'll start crying again. And I haven't even watched the show in two years! (I taped this one because I had heard it was a big one) Bravo to the writers and actors...

I don't know...I thought it was kind of corny. Besides that that's not the REAL Rachel anyway...she was so sweet, and then when the new actor came in, she became the evil Rachel.

I actually didn't think it was corny because I felt like Rachel's callowness and self absorption gave some realism to the whole thing. My husband got upset and said he was envious that I get to sleep with our daughter and can kiss her at night while she is sleeping. I offered him the chance to sleep with her and I'd sleep by myself, but he didn't take me up on it. :LOL

I had a hard time sleeping after watching that show, too. I cried like a baby when he was rocking Ella. I felt so sad that he died alone in bed, but thought it beautiful the way his spirit was portrayed as leaving. It made me aware of how many parents must live with saying goodbye everyday. My heart is breaking, and I have been giving my babies more kisses since then.
