I am an avid Buffy fan. Just got Season 5 on DVD a few weeks ago, watched it and now I realize something doesn't make sense...

Buffy dies at the end of season 5 in "The Gift". Why wasn't another Slayer called up? When she died from the Master in Season 1 that chick was called (started with a K...) and when SHE died Faith was called. So now there will always be 2 Slayers. If Faith died, another would be called.... so when Buffy died, shouldn't yet ANOTHER Slayer have been called?

Unless with Buffy dying in Season 1 she then lost the ability to be the one true Slayer and so now Faith is technically the REAL Slayer. Therefore when she dies, another would be called up.

(I know this has nothing to do with what happens in S6 & S7 but I realized it was a major hole in the plot which has never been coverd. Or has it and I missed it?

Anyone? I can't sleep at night!:LOL

Mom to 4! Welcomed Aila Wren on Friday, February 25th!

Two things:

Another slayer didn't need to be called up because Faith is still alive. Faith would have to die in order for another slayer to be called.

However, Buffy's death and subsequent ressurection by Willow did have consequences along these lines which is addressed in the last season. In fact all the things that happen in the last series are as a result of Willow's messing about. There is an episode where they discover this.

HTH

PS Kendra was the name of the second slayer before Faith.

Ok.. I am just getting S7 out here so I didn't know they discuss the ressurection.

BUT - this still doesn't make sense to me.

Buffy dies in S1 so Kendra gets called up.
Kendra dies and Faith gets called but Buffy is still alive.
Buffy dies and no one gets called because Faith is alive? Wouldn't that mean that when kendra died Faith shouldn't have been called up because Buffy was still alive?

So basically by dying once, Buffy got thrown out of the whole Slayer cycle thing and therefore any subsuquent deaths (haha only Buffy would die a few times and live to tell about it!) wouldn't matter because faith is actually the "true" slayer?

See what I am saying?

Or am I just putting WAY too much thought into this?

The whole once you die the first time, you are taken out of the "one chosen slayer" loop thing is how we interpreted it here. And given the series finale,
Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
where every potential is suddenly magicked into a slayer
, it's all moot now anyway!!!!!!

warmly,
claudia
edited to add spoiler

Spatulagirl: you are absolutely right, Buffy got thrown out of the slayer-cycle thing when she died the first time. Her dying and getting resurrected again puts a big spanner in the metaphysical works which is discussed in season 7.

GreenHippieMama: I liked Xander too but DH and myself gave it a thumbs down purely because of the slagging we would have received. Good for you sticking to your guns though, I think it is a great name.

StarMama: sorry about the drooling :LOL

Actually dh wanted to name him Xander too. Ok,first he wanted to name him "Rugby" after I said no way to that it was Xander all the way. Unfortunately there was some macho action film where Vin Diesel played a guy named Xander and people seem to think that's where we got the name, but we were unaware. It was Buffy's Xander 100%
