What are your favorite tv shows ever?  I just finished Sons of Anarchy and am looking for a new obsession.  It would be preferable if the shows were available on netflix and hulu, but I'm willing to rent them if they are good enough.

Some of my favorites:

(in no particular order)

Sons of Anarchy

Criminal Minds

Buffy

The Walking Dead

Gilmore Girls

Glee

The OC

Candy, Mom to Matthew (5/02) and Ethan (10/07)

Trying for #3 starting 5/13

Gilmore Girls was awesome.  I loved Six Feet Under.  I sobbed through the last episode.  Alan Ball is a genius!  Damages is also a good one to watch on DVD.

If I had to pick one favorite: My So-Called Life. If I'm picking more than one favorite, several shows come to mind, but I feel like I'm forgetting some...I'll post more after I've happily obsessed about this question. biggrinbounce.gif

Ooooh My So-Called Life!!! I loved that show so much, i was sad that it only lasted one season. I owned the DVD box set at one point, i watched the episodes over and over lol.gif. Claire Danes is an amazing actress and the show was deep and full of real-life situations and relationships--definitely one-of-a-kind.

My favorite tv show growing up was Little House on the Prairie, but I don't really feel the need to watch that now.  But I might watch the Waltons again.

Avatar: The Last Airbender has been one of the tv shows I've been most excited about as an adult, go figure.  I also loved Malcolm in the Middle & Frasier, very funny, and I love Community. I also enjoyed Seinfeld, Ellen, Roseanne, Friends, Living Single.  Oh, the Brady Bunch, that was my favorite for a long time!

I loved Homefront when it was on, but it wasn't on long. I watched a lot of the popular shows over the year, and haven't watched a lot more of them.  I do watch Walking Dead and Downton Abbey.

My husband's favorite show ever is the Mary Tyler Moore show, but he says News Radio comes pretty close.  I totally forgot about that one.  I loved that show.  And I love Futurama.

So many good shows already listed... nice to see Firefly amongst the favorites.  I really loved that one, too, and was going to list it.

Let's see... recently the girls and I watched a couple Hardy Boys DVDs.  That was one of my favorite shows, and returning to it was disappointing, to say the least.  So, I will include a few favorites that still hold some interest for me (Love Boat, an old favorite, is not on here for the same reason).  Note that many of these are from my childhood:

*Battlestar Galactica

*Land of the Lost (well.... that one might not pass muster, either, but I looooved it)

*Get Smart

*Gilligan's Island

*Star Trek TNG

*Police Squad (The 6-episode 80's comedy with Leslie Nielson.  Cracked me up, and like Firefly, was massively bummed when the networks didn't pick it up for a full series.)

*Firefly

*Married With Children (especially when it was new, it was so refreshing)

*Greatest American Hero (loved this when I was 12 or so)

*Mork and Mindy

*Survivor (this one grew on me, and funny enough, is the show I miss the most not having TV.  I never would have guessed I'd count it among my favorites.  It is....addictive.)

SweetSilver-I'm glad you mentioned Star Trek.  I watched TNG, Voyager and Deep Space Nine.  DSN was my favorite because the tone was darker and much more spiritual and mature, for lack of a better word.  I liked how they explored sexuality and gender more than in the other series.  Spirituality and religion were also a huge part of the show.

Doctor Who!  The 2005 series.  I was confused about what to watch when I started.

Downton Abbey

Call the Midwife is really good and available on the PBS website.

The Big Bang Theory - So funny! But maybe partly because my husband is a physicist...

I loved Twin Peaks.  It's old but so weird and good.

If you like Criminal Minds, maybe you'd like Bones, another family favorite.

If you like Buffy, maybe you'd like Fringe.  We were so sad when it ended.

Definitely at the top.  The list was a bit random, and I ran out of room.  It should be up there--especially since it influenced so many shows that came after, with that paranoid, conspiracy-theory story running through the entire series.  Much copied, never duplicated.

Oh yeah, I loved that show!  And I knew all the words to the theme song. :D

I also watched X-Files, but I had sort of a love hate relationship with it.

Oh, another one of my all time favorites was The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby.  I watched it in the 70's along with Fantasy Island, Love Boat and re-runs of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman. I have never tried watching them again, however.  I watched a lot of M*A*S*H in syndication, along with things like Mary Tyler Moore and the Bob Newhart Show.  I do remember when MASH ended, even though my family didn't watch it, we all watched the series end.

I never really watched Northern Exposure, so I might have to try that one if it's on Netflix.

Viola: I also loved The Incredible Hulk - great show.

Fantasy Island (am going to check it out again on Netflix)

Love Boat ( doubt I'd ever watch it again, though)

Charlies Angels - loved it

A-Team (watched most of them again on Netflix and still enjoyed it)

Knight Rider (hasn't aged well)
Battlestar Galactica (the original one - I've never watched the new one)

I was also a huge Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman fan.

I'm currently watching Firefly on Netflix. It's pretty good.

I haven't really enjoyed tv in a long time, and don't care for most new shows I've seen. I'm a child of the 80s, and like bombastic action and cheese. I'm not crazy about dark and edgy. My ex and I used to watch X-Files, but mostly because he loved it. I found most episodes really "meh" and there was at least one each season that just wigged me out. I don't like being wigged out.
