Tonight there was an episode "Baby on Board" where they did a maternity makeover for 1 new mom and 2 pregnant women. When they were showing the mannequins for the new mom, Clinton said, "This is going to be really easy for breastfeeding, there's no elastic on the bottom." I was like, "WOO HOO!" but I was a little surprised a gay man would pay attention to that detail, lol. Stacey did say that the woman who dressed all in black looked like she was in mourning for her life, (Clinton told the woman that pregnancy is a joyous time, not a time for mourning, and then Stacey said the life "joke") I guess both hosts can't be awesome.

I'm finding that many men are waaaaaaaaaay more supportive of BFing than women are, and have few qualms talking about it.

I blog traditional foods and Weston A Price at Nourished Kitchen. See my healthy recipes.

My mentor was telling me that at an LC conference a speaker said "A woman not being able to breastfeed is like a man who can't get *it* up." Basically, women are more sensitive about not breastfeeding their children because they think that others will think they're bad mothers. I feel for women who really can't breastfeed because we see them come into our office quite often, but for the lady who chose not to give their baby the best even though she had all the right equipment and milk right there all I have to say is "Boo f*#%ing Hoo about your feelings"!!!

Oh, what really bothers me are moms who choose to ff and SAY they were unable to bf.

1) It makes women think being unable to bf is far more common than it actually is.

2) Can you imagine if you were one of the moms who went through hell and back trying to breastfeed and were completely unable to? How would it make you feel that women are just using it as an excuse because they don't want to be judged?

Exactly! It's so irritating! It isn't common! Yeah there are those who really can't. They have health issues, but just saying you can't because you don't want to be judged is just off the wall to me. Oh yeah, and I'm still laughing about your comment on the men who chose not to get it up. That was funny!!! :

So is breastfeeding envy in women the equivalent of penis envy in men?

I guess so, but maybe a little more taboo. (After all, we can talk about erections because sex is a natural function. But breastfeeding is completely unnatural! That's why God made the formula trees!) :

A woman in my MOMS Club said that breastfeeding in public is like showing your vagina in public because breasts have been sexual since the beginning of time, her reasoning? Eve covered up her breasts after eating the forbidden fruit. :

I saw this post too. I don't know how nip is like showing your vagina in public. : Then this same person won't have any issues with a woman wearing next to nothing in public! That's just stupid. Well there is LLL out there and AP International.

true, if she's only worried about the parts Adam and Eve covered up, she'd have no problem with everyone walking around in bikinis and speedos, would she?

at formula trees. I almost snorted my coffee through my nose.

I think in general men can be more supportive of women than other women. There is less competition.

My DH does the same thing. For instance, we got the Victorias Secret catalog (Say what you will, but I loves me some VS and he'll see a bra top, or a loose shirt and blurt out something about "easy access"..

It's kinda cute that he's trained now!

So far, I haven't had any problems NIP, but it seems that ppl who have problems are usually getting hasseled by other women, not men. I read about other women saying, "My (insert male here) doesn't need/want to see THAT!" which I think boils down to petty jealously issues. As if her dh (or whoever) will never love her again if he catches a glimpse of a bf'ing mom's breast.

My DH is very uncomfortable around having my friends NIP in his presence. He had no problem with me nursing whenever, wherever (I was always fairly modest but not obsessive about it). I think that he just wants to stare at my friends' breasts so much that it makes him uncomfortable to do so in my presence. He's too turned on by it so he prefers it to not happen in his presence. Silly, eh? He would never tell them not to though, he just tells me that he feels like he always has to hide his eyes when all the women are around.

Regular WNTW watcher here ( ) - even though I'm definitely someone they'd think ought to be ON the show! ....

I'm not that certain that Clinton is homosexual. He makes some pretty risque comments sometimes .... Generally quite interested in the cleavage area. Maybe it's an act. But since nothing's been said and nothing's in his bio, I tend to err on the side of, "Well, he's Clinton" and not make assumptions in re: his orientation.

And Stacey is pretty good most of the time too - they do engineer funny quotes of course. I like them both. Given what I know of her, I'd imagine that there's a reason (from both her and Clinton's perspective) that bf/maternity were featured. She's a pretty strong feminist. The hosts take turns playing good cop/bad cop.

It's on right now, actually - I had missed it last weekend so am watching it right now. So far, so good.

I didn't get to see the entire episode, but I was just so excited to see the beginning of this episode! (I only saw the segment where they were dumping all their old clothes.)

When my son was a newborn, I would tivo this show and got very into it -- until they had an episode with a mom of a 4-month-old who was 'sick of looking like a mom' or something. They brought her to NY away from her baby and gave her this silly makeover. I was so annoyed that they were giving her a hard time for the way she looked at 4 mos. postpartum (apparently pre-baby she was pretty stylish) and that she was separated from her baby for so long.

This episode was 100x better, because they talked about playing up your new curves, being proud of being a mom, and best of all, the new mother had her baby right there on the set with her (when they showed the pregnant moms being critiqued, the new mom was shown sitting back on the couch holding her baby and watching).
