I watched the twins 7th bday episode but still have the 2nd one to watch. Yikes, arguing about discipline in front of kids is not a good idea. When Kate said, "I'm sorry Collin, don't listen to Daddy." Um. Not good. And then how she was "disciplining" Jon about the way he was disciplining Collin at Gymboree. : I'm starting to feel sorry for Jon. It seems he just can't get anything right.

Oh, and I felt bad when Kate was talking about how Maddy comes home from school (at least) 2 days a week very upset, having "outbursts". I don't know about anyone else but if that were my child, I would be concerned and would definitely check into it at school.

I mean, I know her personality is very "touch and go" alot of times but, still.

I dont know if this has been mentioned before but it seems like Maddy could have sensory issues or ADD.
I hate to critique people on shows because you dont truly know what goes on when the camera is off and no family is perfect but from what I've seen, it looks like Maddy has SPD.

Here's me I married then we had dd15 , dd11 , ds10 , and then and now we and I blog!

I thought it was terrible when Kate told Collin "Don't pay attention to Daddy he's mean". No matter what you feel about your partner don't tell their children that they are mean. What was she thinking??? Mady is a mess. I think the little girl needs professional counseling or therapy. There is obviously bigger issues than being tired like Kate said was the problem. It's not just the after school issues, this has been going on since the beginning. I like the show but I really feel sorry for everyone involved...they all seem so unhappy. If its an editing thing, I'd be talking to the editors about portraying my family as is it, not making us look like how they want us to look.

I REALLY can't stand it when reality show people plead "bad editing". You can't edit a person into something they aren't. Either they said and did whatever they said and did, or they didn't. And if they didn't, then the footage wouldn't be available to edit.

They can't pull tantrums and whatnot out of thin air. Either the tantrum happened, and they are showing the footage from it, or the tantrum DIDN'T happen, so we wouldn't be seeing it on TV. (That goes for the tantrums from the kids AND from their parents!)

yes, but combining all the tantrums and bad moments into one 30 minute show does paint a bad picture, damn, if someone recorded my family all day everyday and condensed only the bad parts into a show, i would probably be called worse things than whats being said here about kate.

Exactly! I cant believe how harsh some of the comments are here. They are a family who is in no way perfect and they dont claim to be. Could they improve on their parenting skills? Sure...we all could. Could they fight less? Sure we all could. They have 8 children. I think Kate handles her role as mother to 8 children amazingly well.

This show is on it's second (I think, might be third) season. It's not just one 30 minute show. I don't think that Kate is evil, but she is running the risk of people judging her when she makes a television show about her family's life. She is nasty to her husband, that we've seen for at least a year now, because the show has been on that long. If he was saying the same things about her (or to her), everyone would be picking on him. But it's okay for HER to be nasty to HIM simply because they has eight kids? I'm sorry, eight kids or not, I don't think that's an excuse for being downright rude to your spouse in the ways that she has.

Eh, there have been quite a few examples of Jon being rude, not helping out, etc. I don't think that Kate is the only guilty party here.

yeah Jon is...... well he leaves a lot to be disired. i can't fault Kate at all and i think it shows in the children's faces and the parent's that their family dynamic works for them and good on them! i'm not going to let 30 minutes of edited film (all to make money, let's remember that) make a case against a family that is obviously so committed.

if you are watching the show, you would have seen plenty of examples of jon being just as mean etc, and because of the editing it looks like all they do is argue. But if you also watched the outakes show, you would have seen scenes they deleted of jon and kate alone, getting along very well and lovingly.

I gotta see if TLC has the shows online to watch. We're getting ready to cut DirecTv to save $$. This is one of just a handful of shows I am really going to miss! I'll be coming to this thread for my recaps!

I see that the attitude goes both ways; it's not just Kate and not just Jon. My sister and her dh are like this so I've been witnessing this dynamic for 21 years.

:

I think more of Kate's shows up in the show because she does it with such style and flair while Jon is much more low key passive aggressive and that isn't as obvious.

I never said to be non human. However, I do and always will think its disrepectful and childish to say "daddys mean don't listen to him". I like Kate a lot, but every show she is complaining how Jon doesn't step up and discipline, etc but when he does in her eyes its never "right". In all honesty she seems to do better on her own with the kids. When he's home she's always mad because she is hoping he'll give her a break and then he zones and dissappoints her. Its a terrible cycle.

That said my dh and I would not be able to cope with eight kids..period. That is why we have three. My hat is off to the whole family for playing the hand they were dealt to the best of their ability.

Did anyone watch last night when Kate and her friend went to Ikea? I missed the ending and wanted to see how she had organized everything?

Anyone else think Kate looked especially tired last night? I keep wondering if she's pregnant?

i thought jon had the snip after they got pregnant with the sextuplets? plus, she had to use fertility drugs and IUI's both times, i doubt out of nowhere she would get pregnant out of the blue.

shes probably just tired, she has 8 kids

I really like this show too, even if it does show Kate as the "mean" one. I don't think she is, I think all the PPs have really hit the nail on the head about it being a two-sided thing. Plus editing of course. I missed the end of last night's show too and I really want to see the rooms. I love that they moved the big girls upstairs and then the sextuplets are in two rooms now too. It looks like a good setup.

Oh, I highly doubt Kate's pregnant too. I wonder when/if they even have the time and energy to do the BD, kwim?

They never really showed an great "after shot" of everything she purchased set up., maybe because John is still assembling all of those pieces. Ikea stuff can sometimes be time consuming to put togeather.

Wouldn't that be something if she was pregnant, naturally? Stranger things have happened.....

Out of curiosity, I wiki'd this show this morning and I was floored to see that Kate is a year younger than I am (she was born in 75, and Jon in 77) - I thought she was at least 36 or 37.

Nope! They had the twins in their early twenties. ^

I think Jon said twins by 21, sextuplets by 25.?? Or something like that.

Wow, really? I would have thought late 30's too. Jon doesn't really surprise me though.
