i know Germany had breed bans on some dogs, but the site conflict with the breeds that are banned. we would be moving with the US army so we would live on base. i know that pits and other danger dogs are banned, but on any list of danger dogs an American Bull dog is not on that list. some sites say they are banned and other do not list them.

does anyone know? it would break my heart to not take him. i would just die!

Hi Kelly,

It is my understanding - and from a little bit of googling around - that there are no breeds banned by law in Germany.

However, there are 4 breeds that are subject to conditions or restrictions (Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull terrier, Bull terrier). I've heard it depends on the state where you'll be living. You might be required to use a leash (even a muzzle?) unless you can get a certificate from a dog association that your pup is not aggressive.

Since you'll be on base, is there any way to check with the army? They must have already had this question come up before.

Good luck with your move!

I would be more concerned with the flight, some have tight restrictions on snub nosed dogs.

This may be too late, but as far as I know, American bull dogs are not on any of the Länder Rasselisten. As Mel38 said, each state has its own list of restricted breeds. No breed is banned, but some breeds have to be on a leash or wear a muzzle, and there may be extra insurance regulations.

Good luck!
