4-year-old ds hasn't asked to nurse in well over a week. I was even cuddling him on my lap yesterday when he was sleepy and he didn't ask. Kind of shocked me. Nursing has always been so important to him, I thought he wouldn't stop for a long, long time.

I'm not sad, really, that he stopped... it's kind of nice to have my body to myself. But it just feels odd.....

Hm.

That's how I felt when my dd night weaned on her own a few months ago.

With your little guy though he may come back again, then take a break again. A lot of mamas here have found that their nursling cut down to 1-2 nursing per month before completely weaning. Every child is so different though, so with your little guy he could really be done. Either way, how wonderful that you've given him all the benefits and security of breastfeeding for four whole years!

Wouldn't you know it - he asked to nurse shortly after I posted this. Still, he nursed for about 2 seconds and didn't even really get any milk. He told me there was none, but there definitely was. I think he must have just wanted to know that he still can... or something.

It's really cool to watch this process take place. It's like each element of nursing is becoming less and less important to him... they've given him what he needs and he's moving on little by little.

Congrats! Are you going to "celebrate" or acknowledge it in any way? Have you talked about it? DS told me last night he will not be nursing when he is 4 (He is 40 months now).

DD went through that for a long time.

I'm right there with you. Adam was down to once or twice a month for a while. Yesterday, he dropped the bombshell, "Mommy, Luke likes having nitenites. But I'm all done with nitenites. I don't want any anymore."

I asked him again today, and he said he doesn't need nitenites anymore. I just told him he could have some if he wanted.
