Not sure if anyone remembers me, but I had posted a few questions in this area back at the beginning of my pregnancy. I had decided to do an unassisted childbirth and I DID IT!! I was really nervous about it, but I just had this feeling that I could do it. All of my other births were with a midwife and went so well, and I really felt like I could do it on my own. I know it sounds silly, but I wanted to experience it like the cave women did and just let my body do what it had to do!
I was in my 39th week & had just gotten back inside from working in my garden when my water broke. It was about 2pm at the time. I called my husband and he came home from work. Contractions started at about 2:45 and I got in my tub around 3. It was very peaceful and relaxing. My kids all hung out with me a lot and my 3 year old nursed! It was just very laid back and low key. Around 4 my contractions became very intense and I know it was soon time. My husband was the only one still in the room b/c I wanted some privacy. I was in the tub, on all fours, and my body just naturally, instictively started pushing. It was awesome. Instead of a midwife telling me when to start and stop, I listened to my body and just went with the natural flow. Was it painful? Yes. But also so natural and made me feel so powerful. After about 10 minutes of pushing, I felt her head and then passed her shoulders and then I pulled my baby girl out of me! It was so amazing and spiritual for me.
I'm so happy I decided to do a UC. It was so great for me and my little pumpkin. We sat and stared at each other in the water for the longest time. She almost immediately found my nipple and started nursing. With an hour of my birth, I was tandem nursing my little newbie and her older sister! She weighed 6 pounds and was 19 inches long. She's now 4 weeks old and doing wonderful! We hope to become pregnant again in the future and if we are so blessed, I'll definitely do another UC!!
