I have never worried about anything going wrong in birth. I have always known what to look for, as far a emergencies go and trust that I will make the right decisions. I have always felt that I would rather something tragic happen on my watch because I could eventually forgive myself knowing I did all I could for my baby. it would be harder for me to trust that a doctor had done the same. I could never forgive myself for trusting a stranger.

"If they are preparing while the mother is on her way, they can C-section her as soon just moments after her arrival."

What I need to add about this line from the article, and what moms planning a UC should know, is that if you call the hospital telling them you need a Cesarean, they are not jumping to prep the OR. They are going to do the usual admit that they would do if you had walked into the ER (unless you call yourself an ambulance, then it could move faster). Count on there to be a delay because you were not their patient and you are not coming in with a midwife. Expect to be drug tested, asked lots of questions about your health history, especially if you don't have medical records with them. They are not going to perform surgery moments after your arrival.

" She can often feel the placenta during a vaginal check."

Also, this is bad, bad advice. If you have placenta previa, doing a vaginal exam can cause torrential bleeding. A vaginal check is NOT the way to check for placenta previa.

"Many mothers rent an oxygen tank so they can give the child oxygen if necessary."

I don't know any UC mamas who rented an oxygen tank. Who does that??? Also, oxygen is not recommended during a resuscitation unless baby's oxygen sats are low or the heart rate is below 60 (at which point you should have already called 911). Overuse of oxygen can cause damage.

So overall, I would say the article has serious misinformation and should be taken with a shaker full of salt. If you want information on dealing with complications, get it from a reputable source.
