I've been tentatively planning on a UC...but still going to regular doctor's appointments for prenatal care. I had tested positive for Group B with my 2nd pregnancy and midwife treated it as positive with my 3rd (without testing). I was given antibiotics with both of those pregnancies. This pg, I tested positive again. My OB would like me to come in as soon as regular contractions start so that I can get at least 2 doses of antibiotics. What he doesn't know is I was thinking I either wouldn't come in or I'd come in at the last minute. I know a lot of you don't go to the doctor, but do any of you know you're group b positive (or assume it based on past testing).....and what do you do about it if anything? I'm just looking for suggestions on what I can/should do in order to stay home the entire time or at least up until the very last minute. I did read the article on mothering and that was helpful....but the fear that something could happen to my baby isn't totally gone either. What do you think?

I wouldn't do anything. I'd watch closely for worrisome signs after birth though. I didn't test for GBS because I wouldn't have used the antibiotics anyway.

If you'd like to take some actions to help reassure yourself, there are some suggestions offered by midwives here on reducing the risks.

I tested GBS positive during my first pregnancy, and after researching it, went ahead with my UC plans. In the weeks before birth I upped my vitamin C intake, started eating raw garlic, and started taking echinecea. I made sure I knew the symptoms of GBS disease in newborns. We had a wonderful UC, with a wonderful healthy baby.

I have never tested for it, but I always take a lot of grapefruit seed extract and acidophilus during the last weeks to kill off GBS and yeast (I tend to be yeasty while pregnant - no need to start off with thrush!!).

Listen to me. . ."I always take". Sheesh; I've only done it twice, lol.
(But I'll do it again this time, too!)

I don't think it's an issue and have never tested for or worried about it.
