How do you mentally prepare yourself for an unassisted birth?
My midwife had mentioned that I probably won't give birth without someone assisting me unless I'm comfortable with the being unassisted. I'd like to be that comfortable rather than wait for assistance to arrive. See I had a fast labor prevoiusly and we were talking about what to do if this one is too fast for her to arrive. I want to know what I can do to get myself ready in case this is an unassisted birth. How do I gain the confidence that I can do it?

read as many UC birth stories as to others, ask questions along the way as they come up in your mind, read about "complications", etc. Do whatever you feely you need to. One book I loved was "The Power of Pleasurable Childbirth" by Laurie A. Morgan. Just do what you gotta mama, its a journey and you'll love it if its for you. Listen to your heart and dont let andyone else tell you what is best for YOU or YOUR baby. You know more than anyone else what is the right path for you and your child, no matter what it may be.

You know, that is a hard question to answer for someone else. Personally, I got prepared by understanding that my body would do it, regardless of who was present. We intentionally planned a UC with dd2, so we made that birth plan the ultimate goal, and had 911 as a back up.
I surrendered to my body's ability wholeheartedly. And that was no easy task! I also told myself if I wanted to birth the way I wanted, I needed to limit my choices by understanding the risks of hospital/MW attended births. Knowing the truth about homebirth and the real damage that will happen in a hopsital only solidified my decision in staying home with DH.
I was scared, only because of the unknown. Doesn't everyone feel that way once in a while? You make a choice- run from the fear or learn from it by facing it head on with as much knowledge as you feel comfortable.
just my 2 cents.
All my best!

Mama to 5 babies. UCer, too!
