Hi Amy-cool blog! I swear I've seen your writings before. Do you have another website or blog floating out there about birth?
Anyway- that staph thing is pretty heavy. Was that what I was supposed to read?
I'd hate to go into the hospital for just about anything now! Yikes!
And what took you so long to get on MDC????!?!?!
Thanks!

That staph information is just plain scary. When people ask why I don't have my babies in the hospital I always reply "Hospitals are for sick people." That just tells me how right my stance is *shudder*

Well, you could have some stones being caused by UTI from earlier or a low running one not detectable by them until now. I know I passed like 6 or 7 kidney stones in the beginning of this pregnancy and am feeling like I may have more again.

I think it puts at a slight risk for pre-term labor, but we're both fairly along now for that to not be such a huge problem, yeah? If it is stones, cutting back on caffeine and definitely avoiding sodas (the phosphate can make stones build up, if i remember right) will help some. Drink some extra water to flush the system out, ya know.. take good care ofyourself. I'm hanging in there until at least a month after baby is born before I make an appt to get my kidneys and bladder system checked out for more stones, etc.

Maybe get real quiet with some candle time and ask your body what she needs.. like do i need more water, more protein, less sugar, etc etc.. and see what resonates. RRL tea is good too (not just for the uterus but other organs as well).. maybe I think nettle or milk thistle or uva ursa? (please check to make sure okay for use in pregnancy, etc, foggy brain here in the morning, kwim). And there are those cranberry tablets you can get which are supposed to be great for UTIs...

Hope something there helped.. i am trying to multi-task, ha ha!

ugggh- if I sneeze one more time, this baby is coming out! I really havn't had a cold that made me sneeze so much.
Anyway, I bought uva ursi (sp?). I can't remember why. And it says on the bottle not to use while pregnant. So that's out the window.
dh is making me homemade french onion soup tonight- real beef broth and everything! (he's a chef)
Both Syd and I are miserable. but I must persevere.
The GP called today with prelim. results of my urine test. Trace amounts of bacteria in the urine but the culture will be in on Friday. Dr wants to get me on antibiotics...*shudder*
I have built up quite an immunity to those pretty pills over my lifetime- to the point if I get an infection- like brochitis- I'm up the creek.
I think the uva ursi is for UTI. But don't know if that is what my issue is- if I have one at all
tested my #s today- bp 120/83, bloodsuger 83 after fasting, urine has high specific gravity meaning NOT ENOUGH WATER!!!
So like you mamas said, I'll be chuggin away and testing in 24 hrs.
Any other advice?

Can you treat it without antibiotics? Would probiotics work for this? I definately wouldn't want to be on antibiotics so close to the birth.

Uva Ursi is for UTI Here is a page of information on treating UTIs naturally. The Uva Ursi is not for use by pregnant women.

Gentle Birth has more information on UTIs in pregnant women.

I'm Erin and planning an UP/UC. I'm only just starting my third month, making me due early September- though I've been telling most people I'm due "mid-September" so I don't have a group of frantic friends/family on my hands if I go past 40 weeks.

I'm not comfortable telling my family that I am planning to do this. My mother and Dh's parents all balked when I mentioned I'd like a midwife to handle my care- they all follow a medical model in their own lives and see nothing wrong with it.

I've been doing well so far- a touch of nausea when I don't intake enough protein or let my blood sugar dip too low. Its an adjustment to go from feeding just me to growing a fetus, but I am learning. I'll feel much better about the logevity of this pregnancy once I finish the first trimester. My mom and grandmother have histories of first trimester miscarrages and I miscarried on the cycle before this conception at about 5w.

My pregnancy hormones make me question whether I am doing the right thing by choosing this route. I recognize that even with a midwive's care- I'd feel a constant need to defend my choice to abstain from routine tests and have an extremely hands off pregnancy. It also takes me a very long time to warm up to people in my life, and I'm not sure that 7ish months of visiting a midwife would allow me to achieve the relationship I want for someone present at such an intimate event in my life. At this point, I'm fairly confident I'm not even going to interview potential birth attendants.

The perfectionist in me feels like I need to know everything "just in case." In reality, I recognize that I just need to relax and listen to my body and my child and trust that I will know what to do. I'm glad to be here,a nd am ready to soak up the wisdom of the women who have gone before me!

Mama to Raina (9/06) and Peter (8/09)!

Amy, lots of Vit C? Echinaccea? Hope you both get better soon! Being sick sucks. Oh yeah, I've been inserting probiotics internally near the uretha in the hopes some will crawl up there. Sure it is helpful for the rest of the area too. I'd take it via mouth if I could afford it right now, but alas only had the vaginserts on hand.

Welcome ErinBird! ´

Someone send a cleaning person and a cook please and a masseuse? Oh what weird dream I had last night... ending in the death of 2 women... odd odd odd

Hey Welcome ErinBird! I'll put you on the list.
Nice shots Yvonne! you look a heck of a lot better than I do- I feel like I am being followed everytime I pass a mirror!

So its 444am and I have had a total of 3 hours sleep between Syd hacking up a lung, my blowing my brains out and Sara with a fever and runny nose. Poor dh Greg is getting it also.
Sooo
thankfully it will come and go with all of us at once, but his next week is going to s.u.c.k.!!!!
Sara and I are currently watching Bugs Bunny and laughing out tails off...thats a good thing!
Sweet Greg slept all night with Sydney in his arms in the recliner...what a good man. I couldn't sleep so I gave him a nice long foot massage to pass the time. (lucky duck!)

hope all is well with you all!

lots of love

Thanks! Does that mean your bump is on your back instead of your tummy? And girl, I am heading over to your house! I want a footrub while I sleep, ooooh la la! Although, I was awake when Dh woke up for work this morning and he gave me a quick and nice lil lower back rub when I asked for it. We need to stop staying up so late so he feels better rested and gets home earlier from work. : It's just so nice to play games for an hour or so after DS is asleep.

Amy, I hope you and Sydney are recovering.

Erin, congrats! We have a Sept. due date club going on, I think there are 5 or 6 of us planning to UC as of now.

My best friend is a doula and she has invited me to her house to have the baby if I want to come. She is also pregnant and due sometime in June or July. I haven't actually ever seen a baby born, besides my oldest (a technical UC but there was a midwife there- I'll do a quick story in a minute!) so I should probably see if she'll let me help or observe just so I know what to do afterward.

My daughter was born in a shower 29 hours into labor. I was 2 cm the entire time until I decided I needed to be alone. I got in the shower to escape the passangers (mom, friend, dh, midwife, assistant...) In those 10 minutes I managed to dilate from 2-10, I guess. Then I screamed (this is embarrassing) "I have to CRAP!!!!" They all clapped, the assistant (who was wonderful) asked if I needed anything. I said I didn't and squatted the baby out in two pushes. That is why I want to do this unassisted. I think my body just works better without any managment.

My main concerns are not the birth, but afterward. Do you have to suction the baby's nose and/or mouth. I have heard both yes and no.

Evergreen- Loving my girls Dylan dust.gifage8, Ava energy.gifage 4 and baby Georgia baby.gif (6/3/11).

Depends on the nose!
We tried to get out a little goo (a couple hours later) and DS smacked the bulb away w/ both hands and yelled at us! Might depend on baby's spirits too!

we didnt do any suctioning at all...just kinda let him "drain". he did seem a bit congested that night so then we sucked out some mucus. no biggie though.

Thanks for saying i am bee-autiful. I forget that now and then.. to me I am just me, lol.

Right now... baby dropped, still breech and having contractions daily (like right now).. for a couple hours, a couple times a day..so guess if this follows exactly like my son's birth, baby will be here in 2 weeks, lol. Only baby knows though.

Tee hee, no question is dumb! (although answers may be, bwahaha)

One, because hiccoughs are felt near my ribs versus down in my nether regions..

two, there's this huge round ball near my right ribs that bobs a bit(as in not just moves, but moves forward in relation to the shoulders/back (how you nod yes) when I press on it) and it's hard versus kind of squishy like the butt (not that huge a difference yet though)

TMI - (I can't wipe myself from the front when baby is breech)

three, all the lil hand movements are felt on my left side or toward the middle

four, almost no kicks really, unlike when vertex, i get huge movements and kicks where the feet are (usually right ribs)

PS contractions / squeezes / hugs are four minutes apart right now.. Think I'll go drink a huge glass of water.

maybe this is a TMI question...but what is it about Auntie Flow that you love? And is there a way that I can love her too, because since I met her my mom has told me she is a gift...and I asked if I could return her. :

To be honest.....I used to hate her. I had bad cramps, felt dirty, bach aches, crabby....

I started really looking at how I think about life and my body. I started using cloth pads. I started using cloth TP. I started to feel amazed at how my body works instead of feeling grossed out by my functions (poo, bleeding )

Since then.......barely any cramps, fewer aches, less bleeding...........I just feel better over all during my cycle and pp time.

I love her because it celebrates my fertility. It celebrates my ability to birth. It celerates my ability to carry life within me. It celebrates the possiblity of new children joining our family. It celebrate my being a woman.....my femininity. :

I probably sound like a dork, but honestly....when you look at it different, it becomes an entirely different experience......much like birth!

Hello ladies. I've been a silent er: but come out of the woodworks today because I just found out I'm preggie!!!! DH and I have been trying for over a year as far as I'm concerned and about a year as far as he's concerned. I think I'm due on October 9th this year and am SO excited to (once again) know the exact day of conception!

I found this forum early this month and read TONS then... AND decided this is what I wanted for my next birth and baby. Who knew I was already preggo!! hahaha DH is even on board! I'm TOTALLY thrilled and amazed about that. His one caveat (spelling?) is that he rather needs someone with homebirth experience to attend (like a doula or someone who's been through it before). This is a TREMEDOUS turnaround because he was TOTALLY opposed to even a midwife attended home birth with our DD!!

Anyway... I'm so grateful for all the wisdom and support in MDC and look forward to getting to know you UCer even better since I know I'm now aiming for that in a much more limited fashion (time-wise).

So, wish me luck! I look forward to talking/listening more with/to you lovely ladies!!!
