Welcome to the UC support thread! Unassisted childbirth (UC) is birth without a medical professional present and without anyone acting in a midwifing capacity. (This does not mean that the mother has no support, just that the labor is not managed and guided from without.) If you are planning a UC and would like to be listed here, please PM the originator of this thread (and let us know if you change your mind previous to going into labor so we can keep the list stats accurate.) And please remember to check back in with us after your birth to let us know how it went!

sheacoby- thanks for thinking of me. i am indeed seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, even though i just had a puking episode that left me on the floor.

i am finding that i am not throwing up as often. i do still feel near constant nausea and gagginess, severe smell sensitivity. but i am 12 weeks and 3 days, so i am feeling like i may be out of the woods soon.

i am still struggling to find a care provider for rhogam after the birth. what a lot of hassle!

just dropping by to see all the gang again.
I also had to mention how baby Savannah is doing! She is already holding her head up, sucking her thumb and focusing on everyone around her!
Oh, and we brought her into the Ped on her birthday-
a whopping 11+ lbs and 22 inches long! What a chunk!!!!!!!!!

NOT ONE TEAR EITHER!!!!!!

I'll write the birth story as soon as I can!
lots of love

Great to hear amyjean!

I was amazed when my lil one was born and holding up head and turning it side to side.. sure made breastfeeding a newly born a bit of apain, lol. She never wanted to keep the head still enough to keep my nipple in there, lol. 5.5 weeks and she's 5.24kg (11lbs 10oz about) So I can imagine exactly how your lil one is right now, lol!

Looking forward to your birthstory.. hopefully lil one will be entertained or sleep enough for me to finish mine! (about halfway done now)

Tabitha, it's good to hear from you. I'm glad you have some hope!! When I had hyperemesis it usually was better by 12 weeks and gone by 4mths!! I hope yours is on the way out.
I feel silly even complaining about my all day nausea/ excess saliva 24/7 (gross) but darn it's old (I did toss my dinner last night too). I'm going into my 11th weeks so I'm really hoping my morning sickness will be gone soon too.

Amyjean, that's a big babe you got there!! Makes me even more impatient to have mine.

Congrats Amyjean! Wow, I would LOVE to have a big whopper like that, if only to snub all the people who continually tell me I can't *possibly* give birth to my husband's baby (he's 6'4" and I'm 5'1" tops and around 100lbs soaking wet)!

Within my viable span I'm somewhere around 12-14 weeks pregnant. I'm measuring huge, only a few fingers below my navel, and feeling a few kicks almost every day. My dates aren't off, either.

I'm having some very intense dreams lately... It's only been five months since my son died, and there is a lot of unresolved grief. Sometimes I think this pregnancy is very emotional, and sometimes it feels like I'm completely disconnected from it. Usually by this time I've had intense feelings about who this baby is but all I've gotten so far is that it's a girl. I don't even know what she looks like - and that's big for me. By this time in my last two I'd already written down details of their physical appearance (and was 100% right on).

Updating...

It's a Boy!!!

Daniel Ryan was born @ home, unassisted in the water, caught by mommy, on Friday, April 7th, @ approximately 8:30pm. 6 lbs. 10 oz. Haven't measured his length yet.

Labor and delivery were rougher and longer than I expected, because I got in the water too soon, which also made it less effective for pain relief towards the end when I really needed it. Labor was 11 hours total, about 4 hours of real active labor. Once again, I let my body do the pushing until the very, very end. I caught Daniel myself. I saw it was a boy and immediately got out of the tub because the water became, um, more than a little dirty (if you know what I mean) when I pushed the baby out. We all noticed immediately that Daniel needed a little help getting started. He was very pale/purplish and his lips were purple and he was limp. His cord was pale and not coiled but smooth, it was still pulsing, but only slightly, I could barely feel it. The baby wasn't responding to my rubbing his chest and back, he grimaced ever so slightly when I gently blew on his face, but then nothing and still, he was purple and I couldn't feel his heartbeat, I also tried suctioning him both with my mouth and the suction bulb, but there really wasn’t any mucus, and again only a slight grimace as a response. We (John, Sarah my 16yo and I) were all praying "Please God let him be okay"....John asked me if he should call 911 and I said yes, but he wasn't with them on for long, when I told him "forget it, tell them not to come, he's fine"... After giving Daniel two small puffs of air while rubbing his chest, I found Daniel's heartbeat and he started to pink up, I laid him belly first over my arm, with his head slightly lower in case he needed to get out any mucus (he didn’t) and told Sarah to gently blow on his face a few more times. He didn’t cry but he opened his eyes and started to look around and he became very alert. He seemed to be fine so I brought him back to my chest so I could hold him skin to skin and then he proceeded to poop all over me and then a minute later, pee all over me. Praise God!! It was very scary for those few minutes, but even when I told John to go ahead and call 911, in my head I was hearing, “he’s going to be okay, he just needs a little help.” Daniel started nursing shortly afterwards and had no problem latching on, he nursed for about two hours . We are so thankful that he is alive and healthy and that I knew what to do. I didn’t tear but have a few skid marks, so I’m a little sore but not too bad and I feel pretty good overall. My milk came in this morning (today is the 9th). Daniel is sweet baby boy, we’re so thankful to have him!

pic here and here!

Those pics are so sweet Rachel! Congrats!

To the other recent births too... Yipee! I'm not quite caught up enough on here yet... my apologies for seeming so generic.

Welp, I'm 15 weeks along and feeling much much better. I've had nasty morning sickness/hyperemesis until last week. Now I'm just finding that I only feel ill when I've waited too long to eat. Thankfully I actually have an appetite now!

I have a few concerns I wanted to throw out there to see what some opinions might be. I have a history of kidney stones and I've actually had one nasty run in with severe Pyelonephritis ( massive kidney infection) which landed me hospitalized for 7 days when my youngest ds was only 6weeks old. It's been 4 yrs since I've had any problems however I did pass a stone in January... here's my issue- I started noticing some discomfort in my left kidney this week and I'm having what seem to be very mild symptoms of a UTI. I have some Bio-Veg ( a natural immunity booster which acts like an antibiotic) from my ND which I stupidly started taking right away this morning without reading the label. It contains Barberry and that is known to cause contractions and isn't safe for preggy mamas. So I axed that ... so far no cramps or anything and I only took two doses. What I'm wondering is if any of you have dealt with UTI's during pregnancy and how did you treat it?

I've noticed that Garlic is recommended and of course the old faithful cranberry juice. Just curious what may have worked for any of you. Naturally if I have any serious kidney pain I'm heading straight to the hospital due to my history but I'd reeeeeeally like to avoid making that trip providing all stays mild. I'm doing an UP along with UC so I don't feel like dealing with questions or possible CPS garbage even though I'm early on. Ya just never know.

*** Update***

Welp... pretty quiet round these parts LOL! Since yesterday I ended up going to the health food store and picking up a supplememnt that's geared specifically toward the UT. It's got Cranberry and a couple of other preggy friendly herbs to help flush out the ole' kidneys and make a nice hostile environment toward that nasty bacteria that like to form in my urine. Oy. I also picked up some 100% unsweetened cranberry juice and water to drown myself in. Surprisingly today I'm feeling a noticable difference... I'm thinking that the few doses that I got in of the Bio-Veg probably helped to get things jump started. Just figured I'd update

milkymommi- sorry i didnt respond sooner, i am 13 weeks and just now beginning to feel relief from hyperemesis.

my husband, coincedentally, just passed his first kidney stones. it has been so awful.

one herb that we used in tea was common dandelion root. this is of course safe for pregnant mamas. we used it on the advice of an herbalist friend i know, who takes it herself, and is pregnant. just dig up dandelions, clean and cut the roost, and make a fresh tea. or here is my friend's advice:

"dandelion root is excellent for the kidneys/bladder/liver to clean everything out too. dig up some roots, rinse them off, chop them up fine, place on a cookie sheet, put in the oven at 250 degrees, leave the door cracked for about 2-3 hours and stir every 20-30 minutes until they are nicely roasted. use 1 T. to 1 cup water and either grind in a coffee grinder and brew like coffee or put in boiling water and let sit for about 15 minutes. drink 3-4 cups a day to help cleanse the bladder/liver/kidneys. it's pretty delicious too...i like it straight, some like it with sweetener and milk (like coffee) but you should try to avoid sweets if possible."

i wish i knew more, mostly karl rested and drank over a gallon of liquids a day.

so, like i said, i am feeling what i hesitate to call recovery. it is so scary to be so sick for so long, and wonder if this is 'it'- maybe it is over? what if it isnt? but at least i am hydrated and eating a bit, by that alone i know i am better, if not 'cured'. i am 13 weeks today.

i have to say i have been staying away because of that CPS thread. i cant handle that crap. i am easily caught up in fear. cant take it. shiver.

nothing else new with me,

everyone's birth news is so magical. it has been hard so far to get all lovey and excited, but some of these pics come close to getting me there! soon, it will be all belly rubs and i'll be jealous of you all, waiting for my turn.

so to all who have birthed, bask in that glory for me! and all waiting, may it be wonderful!!

I second the dandelion. It is a diuretic, though, but shouldn't be a problem, unless you consume it in copious amounts. I like to take a mixture of yellowdock root, dandelion root, and burdock root in capsule form, when I want to boost my liver/kidney power What I do is buy the roots at the store (but if you have your own wildcrafted... ) and I grind the roots up to a fine powder in a coffee grinder, and capsulate them with vegicaps. I take about 2-3 per day (when I was pregnant), but not *all* the time, just when my body was feeling *slow*. Those herbs really get things moving, in all the ways... lol... which can be really good for constipation during pregnancy as well.

Actually, when I first heard of this great herbal root combo, it was from a lay-midwife (who is awesome... believes totally in UC.. loved JPB) and she said those herbs are really great for IRON, too. She suggested mothers to take it in tea form, with blackstrap molasses (another good source of iron), which is a lot more gentle way of getting the good stuff.

What can I say, I'm as my location suggests.

Also, garlic is awesome.... What I do is chop the garlic into tiny bits, and swallow them like that, with water. It really makes the body feel *healthy* afterwards.

I also like to take these bitter and strong tasting things while pregnant because the baby tastes them in their amniotic fluid, so they won't be so "picky" once they get old enough to eat their own food. I can remember my DD (3 yo now) when she was about 7 months, literally eating those vegicaps full of my powdered root combo I was sitting there capsulating them, and she was beside me asking for *more*. I take pride in that. Shes a *strong* healthy, little grrl, I tell ya.

What I'm wondering is if any of you have dealt with UTI's during pregnancy and how did you treat it?

I've noticed that Garlic is recommended and of course the old faithful cranberry juice. Just curious what may have worked for any of you.
I've always used cranberry capsules, more concentrated than the juice, and it's always worked.

Amyjean, thay are all so cute and Savannah is one big adorable baby!!

Tabitha, I'm so happy to hear you are finally starting to get better. It is really hard to get excited when you feel so bad. I'm 11 weeks right now and hoping to have some relief myself soon!! That CPS thread put fear in me too and I've been thinking about it too much (and that is exactly why I feel I must cover my butt with this pregnancy/birth, ugh).

Amyjeans - Looking forward to your birthstory. Love the way you tell them!

Still working on DD's too. I seem to be suffering from fluffy nursing brain as I keep forgetting to write down the parts of the story that float around in my head as I think about them... then I can't remember later, LOL.
