well at least now I will be able to hear the interview!

FABULOUS update! the baby is now back with her parents. They left the court house immediately to get her, so we didn't get much chance to talk. they did have to sign an agreement, but I don't have any details on that yet.
btw this is going on in spokane, wa

I am so happy the baby is home with her parents . Now lets hope CPS leaves them alone (although I imagine they will still do in home visits for a short time). If you can get any further details, that would be awesome. Knowledge is power.

so my question is now what? cps's official story is that they took the baby because she was obviously ill and the parents were not going to take her to the hospital. they said she had ajundice and circulation issues. neither was true, but she did have a slight eye infection and thrush, so they took her to a foster family. so this has NOTHING to do with the uc right? yeah right.... so what do we protest? what do we say to the media? keeping in mind this is a fairly conservative town and most people do think uc is irresponsible...

Tuckersmom, you don't (obviously) have to take a baby to the Dr. or hospital if they have an eye infection and thrus - you do what you can at home and if it becomes an obvious, serious problem you do what you need to (Dr., etc.) - I think it's pretty obvious it's a bunch of b.s (their reasoning) and the fact that after going to the hospital she was immediately released... it wasn't something that she needed to be there for.

My question would be (to them), is a rash or thrush on a hospital born child enough to be taken by CPS? If they are being treated at home? If so, the whole city is in for a CPS raid and that's just plain idiotic. Their reasoning obviously held no water for the judge.

Ugh. So frustrating. You can be sure CPS will be covering their butts like you can't believe. I bet if you talked to a lawyer they would have a better idea how we should approach it.

Oh, and yeah, I'm in the MAMAS group (and planning a UC), I assist Tamy right now with the births she does (well, she only has one left) before she moves. I don't come to MAMAS too much right now b/c Melissa and I had a situation I don't want to happen again (re: my youngest) so I'm giving her space until she moves.

I was in one of your prenatal apts. with Tamy... if that helps to remember me. That was a long time ago though.

If I may comment on what their lawyer said...

That's EXACTLY why this kind of stuff continues to happen... CPS never gets their bums put where they should be when they do erronous stuff... the families are just relieved to be done with the situation (and I don't blame them) but that means that other families have to go through the same crap later on.

I don't think the family really should say anything, but the rest of us certainly could.

oh cool, I do kind of remember you. MAMAS is a bit of a drive for us and my littlest hates the carseat, so I have only been once. Its so cool to "see" someone else local doing UC, its pretty rare around these parts you know?

Esp. in conservative-ville that is our home. I mean really - it's not like there's much room for anything not typical here anyways. You start with the birth choice and pretty soon they'll be doing CPS for vaccinations (according to their reason why they took the baby, it's a very serious possibility) and you just start getting scarier and scarier.

Yes certainly doing UC around here is weird. No way in the world do my parents know... noooo way. I think we live in a place (in particular) that is stuck without a lot of trust (in ourselves, others, etc.) so this has been a journey for me (more than anything) of trusting in myself, my body, my ability and all that God can do.

Alexandra is my doula.

I know, I saw you together at the baby fair but she stayed a long time talking and you were walking with Jacob. She is awesome and I'm really looking forward to her being here (even if I don't use her help).

Glad they got their baby back, but I hope they can afford to get a lawyer who can put cps in their place so this kind of thing stops happening.

I have ideas in terms of advocating UP/UC in general. I'll start another thread so we can start brainstorming!

I'm glad that the mother got her baby back, but I am livid that they signed an agreement saying she wouldn't breastfeed the baby anymore. It sounds like there is more going on, it's so confusing. It just doesn't all seem to add up right.

oops sorry! This was said on another board. I guess they are making her take some medication and she had to sign saying she wouldn't breastfeed anymore in order to get the baby back. LIke I said... it all doesn't seem to make much sense at all.

I grew up in Spokane, and I can see that happening there. Sigh.

Here's the website for the Spokesman-Review:
www.spokesmanreview.com
and here's the address to submit a letter to the editor: editor@spokesman.com

Maybe letters to the editor should start pouring in and opening people's eyes to this travesty.

Meds for what? I'm sure that LLL would have something to say about that... considering that there are very few meds that are unsafe to BF while on. I was hospitalized for 7 days when my youngest was only 6 weeks old. I was on 24 hour antibiotics along with a host of other things to get me better and I bf the entire time during the day and at night when the baby had to leave I pumped with a hospital grade pump and sent bottles home for my baby for during the evening. There were plenty of nay sayers @ the hospital ( sadly misinformed medical personel ) however the evidence is all in black and white in many many different publications and one can't argue with the truth. My midwife at the time came and backed me up and that was it. Sometimes it just takes a little extra fight to "educate" people. A bit of shoving it in their faces

This story is breaking my heart although I'm so happy that they got their babe back.

I am so glad that she has her babe back but now they are making her agree to not bf??? Why do they keep messing with this family? I would agree, too, if it meant getting my baby back, and then I would skip state! How is it any of their business? Once again, cps, !

has anyone contacted the local LLL there? this is so crazy. i have been reading this but trying not to post. but this is crazy!!!
is cps just trying to screw this family and baby up? taking him away upon birth, not allowing his mother to bf???
i too woudl pack my bags and get the hell out of there!!! im sure thats easier for me to say than for them to do, though.
how very very sad our govt. can do something like this with little/no consequence.
i hope you guys are alerting the news media to this crap. im sure these ppl are wanting just to get on with their lives, but this is an issue that really needs to be addressed on a larger scale.
from what ive read here, ive seen NO evidence of any abuse or neglect. actually, teh opposite!
but when they threaten to take your baby, what can you do? this is supposed to be America...where did things go so wrong? a friend of mine who used to be a foster mom told me such horrible stories of real abuse.
im just astonished at this...and saddened.
