Congrats!!!! I want to hear the whole story and how big is the baby?? LOL If I were you I'd be visiting those midwives soon and giving them a lecture they'll never forget. LOL

But really you'll probably want to thank them too for forcing you into a free birth

Love the pics!

Many Ob's say that c-sections are more of a thrill for them then a vaginal birth. Which is probably why it's so easily suggested, and why the reasons for so many c-sections are false. I think that's really selfish! I'm sure they're thinking, "When in doubt, resort to what *I* would enjoy most, get paid a lot more and go home early!"

Not to be, like, harrassing you on your babymoon or anything, but are you thinking about writing the story yet?

Hahahahaha. I totally see you not hassling It's so complex that I'm struggling with how to translate it into a story. There's little sense of linear time, few specific memories and lots of emotional issues to sort through and work out how/what I'm ok with sharing, KWIM? I also feel I will deal with the MW first by writing to her before sharing more of that.

My DS was 8 LB 1.3 OZ... about the size of your precious girl when she was born! We did it, and others here have had bigger babes than ours UC!

How bizarre! My sister is 5'2", all legs and has a pelvis that appears to be miniscule. She births much bigger babies than yours, very quickly, with no pain. Her first was nearly 11lbs, and her second was nearly 13, one of the biggest in our family. She said if she hadn't gone to the hospital and had exams it wouldn't have hurt at all. When the nurses poked around and made her stay on her back for monitoring it hurt, but as long as she could walk and do her own thing, she felt no pain. Her first birth took about 6 hours and the second more like 4. When her second was born she felt a lot pressure as she birthed her head, and that's it. She was in the hospital for about 15 minutes before the baby came out, YAY!

Gloria Lamay has a terrific article about "Pelvises I've Loved" or some such title. You might find it encouraging, to counteract some of this nasty myth-talk you've been getting.

I come from a family of tiny women who birth big babies without much trouble. Average for us would probably be 10-11lbs. I myself was over 6lbs at only 32 weeks gestation, which is pretty whopping big. I'm exceptional in my family in that my babies are a little smaller than average (two 9lbers and an 8lb 3ozer), and my labors are longer and harder than average. But even I can get those babies out if people back off and leave me to do it.

Edited to add: My first vaginal birth was UC, and he weighed 8lbs 3oz at almost 44 weeks gestation, family record for smallest term baby! I'm 5'0"...if I wear a small heel. The big difference for me between c/s and VBAC was being left alone to birth so I could focus on it.

Huge congrats
I am so happy to see that all went well and that you had your babe at home like you wished for. I am especially happy because I am already starting to worry about my next birth (not pg yet and wont be for yet a year or more) since the recent one was a c-sec for malposition - so hearing that you birthed your own babe despite everyone being so negative gives me lots of hope that my next one will be vaginal - and hopefully UBAC - too

Awesome pictures! Enjoy your babymoon

Congratulations! Too bad you're too small to have babies vaginally, huh!?!?

Go lurk on obgyn.net if you ever want to see some of the inner workings of the OB mind (Please do not post! It's supposed to be for OBs only, we don't want them to make it private and cut off our access to their secret hearts). There was a thread on there about why they chose obstetrics and most of them said surgery, plus healthy patients. In other words, like doing surgery on healthy women. Nice, huh?

Think about all the women who hear this same old story and believe it. It's so depressing.

I know Gloria's articles well, I've been recommending them to women for some years now I had a lovely First Birthday Visit today from the gorgeous doula who supported my birth. We communicate a lot via email and online but it was just so community aware of her to drop over with a card and gift. She lives about 2 hours drive from me so it's no mean feat when she does it.

Just to clarify, this thread is from 2006. I was just being nostalgic.
