I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a waldorf school for my kiddies! My problems though are they are too expensive, and too regimented (for me) as far as having to be there everyday. I want to be able to send them 3 days a week or so, not be required to have them there everyday. I love the waldorf homeschoolers site though!

http://www.waldorfhomeschoolers.com/

(sorry to derail the thread! I love reading a bit about you ladies!)

Will you/do you:

Watch TV? Nope, but we do watch movies on our computers sometimes.

Sign with your baby? Yes, but not as much as I'd like to do.

Read to your newborn? Yes, usually whatever I'm reading

Work outside the home? I teach a few piano lessons here and there, but I bring the babe.

Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? Nope.

Recycle? Yes.

TCS, TCC, or CL (consentual living)? Um, not sure.

Own or foster pets? One awesome dog

Follow a religion? Christianity - the teachings of Jesus Christ, not necessarily the teachings of many of his current followers...

Encourage higher education? Neither encourage nor discourage.

Generally support union activity? Don't know enough about it

Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? We buy in bulk and don't get processed foods... so, I guess we do. We don't buy Nestle because they don't really make anything we would eat and we can get what we do eat from other brands where they do make things we would eat...

Baby posessions:

Plastic baby toys? Unfortunately, yes, but we didn't buy any of them!

Toy guns? No.

Other toy weapons? No.

Branded characters? Hmmmm.... we attempt to avoid.

Medical philosophy - do you use the following models of care for actual illness/injury:

Standard medical model (practice-based)? Not often.

Evidence-based conventional medicine? Not often.

Homeopathic? Yes.

Chiropractic? Dh has.

Herbal? Yes!

Nutritional/naturopathic? Yes!

Ayurvedic? Don't know much about this one...

Other/describe? I don't like or trust doctors... I don't feel comfortable with them. I have to be practically dying in order to go to see one
:

Are you a feminist? I believe in equal rights and that many women are oppressed. I think that women should be allowed to choose between a family or a career or to choose both. I didn't choose a career, but that's just me.

City, Town or Rural? Town, though someday we hope to be rural

Do you vote? Yes, though I'm not sure how much good it does...

Where do you fall politically? Libertarian.

love and peace.

#45 ·
Will you/do you:

Watch TV? we watch tv

Sign with your baby? Yes he knows about 25 signs at 17 months

Read to your newborn? Yes

Work outside the home? I am starting a breastfeeding education business but it is run out of my home but will do classes and home visits out of the home.

Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? No

Recycle? Yes.

TCS, TCC, or CL (consentual living)? Not really but kind of!

Own or foster pets? One rescue dog

Follow a religion? earth based

Encourage higher education? I encourage my kids to go for college if it suits them

Generally support union activity? I am fairly neutral on the subject

Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? I don't exactly boycott companies (not formally) but there are many brands I just don't buy because they are crap or support something bad but I don't share about it, its just my personal thing so I feel good about what I buy

Baby posessions: We have many baby possessions but I have never owned a crib

Plastic baby toys? We have a mix of all kinds of toys. My son's favorite things are non-toy items like cell phones, cd players, kitchen utensils etc.

Toy guns? No.

Other toy weapons? we have some water squirters and my 8 yo has a sling shot that he made.

Branded characters? They seem to make their way in but are the first to be tossed when decluttering.

Medical philosophy - do you use the following models of care for actual illness/injury:

Standard medical model (practice-based)? I would have them set a bone, give pain relief for my husband's kidney stones, x-rays etc.

Evidence-based conventional medicine? yes

Homeopathic? Yes.

Chiropractic? yes

Herbal? Yes

Nutritional/naturopathic? Yes

Ayurvedic? No it doesn't appeal to me

Other/describe? I do most of the health care of my family. I used to work in the standard medicine so have a good understanding and then have done tons of research so I treat most minor things here at home and seek out qualified practitioners for other things, like getting my ds cranio-sacral therapy for his nursing problems.

Are you a feminist? I am female and I believe that we have ever right to be in the world. I don't often identify with feminists because the really outspoken ones seem to not be mothers or don't think being a sahm supports the feminist movement but I am all for women's choices. I love men and respect them too so I don't know what I call myself in that respect.

City, Town or Rural? We live in a city but it has a small town feel

Do you vote? Yes but feel that it is pointless sometimes but I keep at it since women fought so hard to get me that right.

Where do you fall politically? Green

TCS is Taking Children Seriously, a specific philosophy offering an alternative to the prevailing discipline paradigm.

TCC is The Continuum Concept, a parenting philosophy drawn from indigenous behavior that is also non-conventional.

"Consentual living" is a general philosophy in which family members interact non-coercively and find mutually agreeable solutions rather than compromising or asserting authority over others. A "t" is used in consentual, rather than the word consensual, because what is sought is consent and not consensus (which could involve compromise and therefore unnecessary sacrifice).

Union activity I threw in for fun. Well, it's all for fun, but you know what I mean. It's rather random, but I do come upon social advocacy sites all the time in reading about crunchy lifestyles.

Branded characters are portrayals of media characters (such as Dora the Explorer or Elmo or Tigger) on children's products (everything from toys to toothpaste to cereal to candy).

Naturopathy is a holistic medical practice licensed in several states, incorporating nutrition and other natural therapies as the initial approach to treat diseases and help injuries heal.

By "Standard medical model (practice-based)" I mean the usual practice by M.D.'s and those that work with them to do "what we always do" and "what has worked for my patients in the past;" the care you'll get if you don't protest. For example, external fetal monitoring (assuming medical care was sought for an abnormality such as preterm labor).

By "Evidence-based conventional medicine" I mean visiting M.D.'s and requesting treatments that have been shown by scientific trials to be effective and safe. For example, intermittent listening with a fetoscope (assuming medical care was sought for an abnormality such as preterm labor).

I am surprised and encouraged by our similarities. This is fun!
