And don't let anyone tell you that you'll change your mind as you get older. I was, at 18 (philosophically), where you two are, and am now expecting my first, 7 years later, UC all the way.

It is beyond awesome to see that some of us may be spared the birthrape experiences that so many here in the UC community have had. :

Yea, i'm so glad i was so interested in pregnancy and birth growing up! It made me read and research about it. And there's no way on earth i'd willingly go to a doctor!

Follow a special diet? (e.g. Vegan, macrobiotic, etc.) As healthy as possible, organic when we can, no fast food or junk, but no, nothing ridgid.

Will you/do you:
Watch TV? A little. I like a couple of sitcoms, DH likes the history channel, but we will be more conservative with it after the baby is here.
Sign with your baby? Yes
Read to your newborn? Yes
Work outside the home? No.
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? No.
Recycle? Not enough.
Own or foster pets? Yes, we have a cat and a dog, and we foster homeless dogs for a local rescue.
Follow a religion? No. We are open minded, but not religious, and do not believe in the Christian "God".
Encourage higher education? Yes. Unfortunately, in this society, without a college education it is very difficult to live a comfortable, secure (financially) life, and that is very important in our household.
Generally support union activity? No.
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? Yes.

Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys? No.
Toy guns? Yes.
Other toy weapons? Sure. Sling shots, b.b. guns, swords... that's all fine.

Medical philosophy - do you use the following models of care for actual illness/injury:
Standard medical model (practice-based)? No.
Evidence-based conventional medicine? Not often.
Homeopathic? Yes.
Chiropractic? Yes. That is what I am in college to study.
Herbal? Yes.
Nutritional/naturopathic? Yes.
Ayurvedic? Yes.

Are you a feminist? No. Not by many people's standards, although I did march in NY for abortion rights a few years ago. That is my "cause" but it doesn't really make me a feminist.
City, Town or Rural? Currently living in the downtown of a big city. But, we are open to whatever, if the urge strikes.
Do you vote? Yes.
Where do you fall politically? Mostly Republican, when I vote. But, I'm not happy with either major party and can relate more to the Libertarian party, although I don't think they have a chance of ever getting elected for anything that would make much of a difference.

Are you/Did you UP? Yes
Are you telling others about your UC plans? Mostly yes
Have you UCed before? Yes, with last one
About your family:
How old is your significant other? 28
How long have you been with your s.o.? 8 months lol
How many children do you currently have? If so, what ages? 4 children; ages 19 yrs, 17 yrs, 15 yrs, 8 yrs
Will your older children be present for the birth? The 17 yr old and the 8 yr old will be
Will you/do you:
Co-Sleep? Yes
Wear your baby? Yes
Cloth-diaper? Yes
Breastfeed? Exclusively- no pacifiers etc
Immunize/Vaccinate your baby? No- Tetanus when older, but no others
Circumcise your baby? No
Homeschool? not at this time- montessori
Follow a special diet? (e.g. Vegan, macrobiotic, etc.) Whole foods, no sugar or chemicals but we do eat some meat

Will you/do you:
Watch TV? Once in a while a DVD but not with young children or babies around
Sign with your baby? yes
Read to your newborn? a lot
Work outside the home? no
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? no
Recycle? yes
TCS, TCC, or CL (consentual living)? I don't know what this means
Own or foster pets? Ferret, hamster, dog, snake- will expand to include some livestock
Follow a religion? no
Encourage higher education? mild encouragement
Generally support union activity? no
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? absolutely. I haven't bought any Nestle owned products in years

Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys? as few as possible
Toy guns? never
Other toy weapons? never
Branded characters? no

Medical philosophy - do you use the following models of care for actual illness/injury:
Standard medical model (practice-based)? not really
Evidence-based conventional medicine? a bit
Homeopathic? yes
Chiropractic? not chiro but deep tissue and bodywork yes
Herbal? yes
Nutritional/naturopathic? yes
Ayurvedic? no
Other/describe?

Are you a feminist? no but when people get to know me, it generally takes them a while to figure out that I'm not, then they ask me about it because they are confused.
City, Town or Rural? rural. I'm living in town right now and it's killing me. I feel like a wild animal in a cage. I need (and am accustomed to) acreage, a goat for milk, chickens for eggs, a big garden... etc
Do you vote? sometimes, but mainly only on the local level where I believe it can make a difference. I don't believe in compulsory voting, or doing so 'just because'. Whereas people say "if you don't vote you can't complain" I feel the opposite- that if you DO vote you have entered into the game voluntarily so you can not complain regardless of outcome. The voting system is completely corrupt and nonsensical, and badly needs to be revamped.
Where do you fall politically? Green

Use a pacifier with your baby? Never
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? Up to the child. None of mine have, but if this one does (spontaneously) then that is fine.

About you:

How old are you? 35
Where are you? Kentucky
Are you currently PG? No
Are you/Did you UP? Yes
Are you telling others about your UC plans? Not really
Have you UCed before? Yes

About your family:

How old is your DH other? 39
How long have you been with your DH? 18 years
How many children do you currently have? If so, what ages?
8 Children - Ages: 16, 11, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, & one waiting with Jesus
Will your older children be present for the birth?
Yes, each child has been present for the birth of all subsequent children

Will you/do you:

Co-Sleep? Yes
Wear your baby? Yes
Cloth-diaper? No
Breastfeed? Yes
Immunize/Vaccinate your baby? No
Circumcise your baby? Yes
Homeschool? Yes

Work outside the home? No
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? No
Recycle? No
TCS, TCC, or CL (consentual living)? ???
Own or foster pets? No
Follow a religion?
I have always hated the word "religion". I am a follower of Jesus Christ that believes the Bible is the inspired word of God, and the only "rule" book that I follow.
Encourage higher education?
On a case by case basis. I think each child should be encouraged to follow their heart. If what they desire to become requires higher education, then yes, if not, then no.
Generally support union activity? No
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons? No, I always believe that if we dug deep enough into any business we would find skelitons in their closets somewhere. So if I boycotted one, I would have to boycott them all. And since I am not self suficient, I can't do that.

Baby posessions:

Plastic baby toys? Yes
Toy guns? No
Other toy weapons? Perhaps, depending on what they were and why.
Branded characters? On a case by case basis.

Evidence-based conventional medicine? On a case by case basis
Homeopathic? No
Chiropractic? Yes
Herbal? Yes
Nutritional/naturopathic? Yes
Ayurvedic? ???
Other/describe?
Many times I believe the body should just be left alone to work the way God made it to work. And that by interfering with it's normal workings we tend to cause greater problems. I use common sense and try to live healthy choice lifestyles.

Are you a feminist? No
City, Town or Rural? City
Do you vote? Yes
Where do you fall politically?
Technically, I am a registered Republican. But when I vote, I look at each candidate and vote according to my beliefs for each singe one.

Use a pacifier with your baby? No
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? "Allow" yes, give and encourage, no.

Any misspellings or grammatical errors in the above statement are intentional;
they are placed there for the amusement of those who like to point them out.

Well this survery grew from the 1st post to the last lol

About you:

How old are you? 19
Where are you? Louisville, Kentucky
Are you currently PG? yes, 17 weeks
Are you/Did you UP? no
Are you telling others about your UC plans? not now.. once it gets closer to the date and I'm 100% commited to it, then I will. My birth location plans have gone in big circles choosing where to go! I am getting more comfortable with the idea of it now, thanks to links I got from this board..YAY!
Have you UCed before? no

About your family:

How old is your DH other? 22
How long have you been with your DH? 7 months together, 2 months married (yeah, we wasted no time)
How many children do you currently have? If so, what ages? I'm pg with #1
Will your older children be present for the birth? n/a

Will you/do you:

Co-Sleep? Yes
Wear your baby? Yes
Cloth-diaper? yes
Breastfeed? Yes
Immunize/Vaccinate your baby? No
Circumcise your baby? no
Homeschool? undecided.. I plan to meet and get to know this little person and make a schooling decision based on what I think s/he would do best with
Follow a special diet? not strict, but I try very very hard to not have high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, bleached white flour, hydrogenated oils. I basically try to eat as healthy as I can and keep processed foods to a minimum. I recently switched to raw milk

Will you/do you:

Watch TV? Yep, not very much. during the week I have no interest for the most part, but I tend to spend sundays glued to it. Its my lazy day. and once the new season starts I'm addicted to ER and The Office.
Sign with your baby? yep
Read to your newborn? maybe
Work outside the home? No
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? If I move back to Seattle, I'll send him/her to the preschool I went to as a kid. Its a really small in-home (converted basement) one and I can't say enough good things about it. thats just 2 days a week for a couple hours. I loved it so much when I was little. I was in the 2nd class the teacher ever did, and it doesn't look like the teacher's going to retire soon!
Recycle? not really :\
TCS, TCC, or CL (consentual living)? umm.. :\ the only one of those I know anything about is tcs.
Own or foster pets? yes, 2 cats
Follow a religion? yes, i do
Encourage higher education? Thats their individual choice
Generally support union activity? not sure
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons? i don't buy anything from nestle

Baby posessions:

Plastic baby toys? yeah, I already bought one! no electronic toys for babies/toddlers though
Toy guns? No
Other toy weapons? probably not
Branded characters? doubt it.. and mostly because most of the character toys i see are kinda junky in general, if not talking/otherwise electronic. we'll see.

Medical philosophy
Do you use the following models of care for actual illness/injury:

Standard medical model (practice-based)?
Evidence-based conventional medicine?
Homeopathic?
Chiropractic?
Herbal?
Nutritional/naturopathic?
Ayurvedic?
Other/describe? i'm basically in favor of taking care of sicknesses in the least invasive/medicated way possible. Totally depends what it is. I get sinus infections like crazy and have tried every natural remedy I can find. Nothing. When I feel one coming I just head to a walk in clinic and get some abx because I know that works. Even though I hate them. I think prevention is best. there's a lot to be said about eating healthy and avoiding crap.

Are you a feminist? not really..
City, Town or Rural? live in a city.. wouldn't mind being some place semi-rural, as long as its not secluded.
Do you vote? Yes
Where do you fall politically? i don't really know where i fall belief-wise. i really hate politics. I can listen to both sides and go, "yeah, good point.." and then just.. ahh! I don't know! I think as political as I get is knowing how I feel about certain retarded laws that are in place here (birth choices, or lack thereof, basically)

Use a pacifier with your baby? i don't plan to, but we'll see if i end up eating my words. I think thats one of those things I don't want to say strongly "no" to and then have someone say "I told you so" later..lol
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? Allow? I basically wouldn't know a blankie or a stuffed animal would become a lovie until it is, and once it is, it'd be cruel to take away. I remember having one. I don't know what happened to it and a small part of me is still kinda upset that its gone.

Hello!

About you:

How old are you? 22
Where are you? NJ
Are you currently PG? No...I wish
Are you/Did you UP? Maybe...can't decide
Are you telling others about your UC plans? I don't think that I could keep it quiet- I'd be too excited. However, when I do tell my family, I will have to limit discussion about "what ifs". No negativity please!
Have you UCed before? no

About your family:
How old is your significant other?
Don't have one...yet
How long have you been with your s.o.? n/a
How many children do you currently have? n/a
Will your older children be present for the birth? n/a

Will you/do you:
Co-Sleep? Yes
Wear your baby? yes
Cloth-diaper? Yes
Breastfeed? yes
Immunize/Vaccinate your baby? Not sure...Its kind of scary to me...but we'll see, I've totally changed all of my philosophies in only a few months so I wouldn't be surprised if by the time I have kids, I'm against vaxing!
Circumcise your baby? Never!
Homeschool? No
Follow a special diet? (e.g. Vegan, macrobiotic, etc.) I want to move towards an organic and very rare eater of meat...I think it is so much healthier and the thought of genetically modified foods disgusts me.

Will you/do you:
Watch TV?
Yes
Sign with your baby? yes
Read to your newborn? All the time...I love reading and I think raising reading children is important
Work outside the home? probably
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? I dunno...
Recycle? yup
TCS, TCC, or CL (consentual living)? no.
Own or foster pets? yes
Follow a religion? Yes- Christianity. Plan on raising children Christian also.
Encourage higher education? Definitley
Generally support union activity? Yes... (the employment kind of unions?)
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? I dont' know about countries...because boycotting countries (like embargos) usually hurts the people, not the dictators.

Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys?
A few...but I want my family to give my kids books and lots of 'em
Toy guns? Never
Other toy weapons? No
Branded characters? Yes.

Medical philosophy - do you use the following models of care for actual illness/injury:
Standard medical model (practice-based)?
Yes- but as the "nth" choice following homeophathic, herbal and nutritional solutions. I don't think doctors are evil...well at least not totally! lol
Evidence-based conventional medicine? Yes.
Homeopathic? Yes
Chiropractic? Yes
Herbal? Yes
Nutritional/naturopathic? Yes
Ayurvedic? I don't know what this is.

Are you a feminist? Yes
City, Town or Rural? City I think.
Do you vote? Yes.
Where do you fall politically? While I am socially conservative, in terms of how my views fall into the political spectrum, I am liberal.

Use a pacifier with your baby? I doubt I would buy one, but I don't have issue with pacifiers when they're not used as a "plug"
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? Why not? I had one...I think its perfectly normal.

About you:
How old are you? (If you're comfortable sharing.)
37

Where are you?
Sydney, Australia

Are you currently PG?
Nope. Maybe again in a few years...

Are you/Did you UP?
First time no (hb MW) second time mostly except for a few appts right at the end. I moved interstate and planned to hb but she dumped me. I'm grateful!

Are you telling others about your UC plans?
Yes! I tell people I FBed my daughter and that next time it's UP/UC all the way, do not pass go to collect a MW at all.

Have you UCed before?
Only the once, nearly 8 weeks ago

About your family:
How old is your significant other?
39

How long have you been with your s.o.?
7 years in January

How many children do you currently have? If so, what ages?
2 - Conor 2 and 9 months, Isobel nearly 8 weeks

Will your older children be present for the birth?
Conor was in the next room. He'd just got up for the day. My labour was long and hard and a bit freaky for him. He's used to having access to me all the time and having one or both parents in the bed at night so 3 nights of disruption plus a doula in the house and me making LOUD noises OFTEN wasn't great for him. I don't regret it though and would do it again.

Will you/do you:
Co-Sleep?
Wear your baby?
Cloth-diaper?
Breastfeed?
Yes to all the above!

Immunize/Vaccinate your baby?
Conor got the first lot then I came out of the PTSD fog and did some learning and he isn't having any more. Isobel is totally jab-free!

Circumcise your baby?
Not on your nelly. Or his!

Homeschool?
Nope.

Follow a special diet? (e.g. Vegan,macrobiotic,etc.)
Not really. We try to eat healthily and mostly organic.

Will you/do you:
Watch TV? Sometimes. Unfortunately hubby and I are very addicted to "24."
Sign with your baby? No. Tried it and it and my son just looked at me like I was crazy, so I gave up.
Read to your newborn? Love to read to my son. I read him all sorts of books while I was nursing him when he was an itty bitty thing. He seemed to like hearing me read.
Work outside the home? No.
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? No.
Recycle? No.
TCS, TCC, or CL (consentual living)? Don't know enough about them to comment.
Own or foster pets? No.
Follow a religion? I agree with Kidzaplenty--believe in the teachings of Christ, but don't attend church regularly or fixate on doctrinal issues in organized Christian religions.
Encourage higher education? Yes. I am not currently "using" (as in earning money) my BS in sociology, but I think the whole college experience was very good for me in many ways.
Generally support union activity? Don't really know much about it.
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? I guess I'm just not that culturally aware, though I have thought about it.

Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys?Some.
Toy guns? None yet, but would allow.
Other toy weapons? Not really.
Branded characters? I purposefully try to avoid them, but the grandparents think he just looks so cute with that Bob the Builder hammer. What's a mother to do?

Medical philosophy - do you use the following models of care for actual illness/injury: I'm extremely healthy, so I don't use much of any of this. If I get sick or feel under the weather, I just try to rest, drink more water, breathe deeply and usually avoid medication of any kind. It eventually passes and my immune system has been strengthened. Yay!
Standard medical model (practice-based)? No.
Evidence-based conventional medicine? Rarely.
Homeopathic? No.
Chiropractic? Have some, but it didn't really seem to help me.
Herbal? Every once in a while.
Nutritional/naturopathic? No.
Ayurvedic? No.
Other/describe? See above.

Are you a feminist? Depends on your definition. Post-feminist maybe.
City, Town or Rural? I prefer rural, but currently a city-dweller.
Do you vote? Yes.
Where do you fall politically? I usually am pretty conservative, but I generally am one of those dreadful swing voters they spend all that money wooing.

Use a pacifier with your baby? No. Son hated it and never would take one. Glad now because my sister just had to go through a process to wean her 21 month old off the darn thing.
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? If he wanted one.

Will you/do you:
Watch TV? We don't have TV/cable but watch Netflix movies. No videos for baby/young child. Selective viewing for older children.
Sign with your baby? A bit, ones that come up a lot, but will not try to "teach" them a whole long list.Read to your newborn? Yes.
Work outside the home? No. (Will work inside the home)
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? No.
Recycle? Yes. (We also reduce, re-use, & compost)
TCS, TCC, or CL (consentual living)? I have no idea. Will probably read a bunch of books and then our family will just find out own style.Own or foster pets? 3 dogs.
Follow a religion? I don't think of it in those terms, but I follow Jesus & believe in the Christian Bible.
Encourage higher education? Yes. But I would encourage delaying it for a year or two and traveling, working, volunteering, etc. first.Generally support union activity? Yes.
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? Not really. But by making an effort to buy local foods I end up avoiding them anyway.
Use a pacifier with your baby? No.
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? If they develop an attachment to something I wouldn't take it away, but I would never encourage it as a way of passing on responsibilty for being the primarylovie/soother.
Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys? No. If a relative gives them I would probably let them play with it but then try to take it away. I'll have enough other stuff to "fight" with them about. I'll just donate things to SA/Goodwill and say the dogs destroyed them.
Toy guns? No.

Medical philosophy - do you use the following models of care for actual illness/injury:
Standard medical model (practice-based)? No.
Evidence-based conventional medicine? Yes. Sparingly. Primarily for acute injuries. (like when DH saws into his fingers and stuff.)Homeopathic? No.

Herbal? Some.

Own or foster pets? one dog-one cat

Follow a religion? Baha'i

Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? Heck yeah!! I vote with my $$
Baby posessions:

Plastic baby toys? Very few, %90 of our kids toys are wooden/natural

Toy guns? No.
