About you:
How old are you? 23
Where are you? Louisiana
Are you currently PG? Yes, due on Labor Day- September 3rd (4 days away!)
Are you/did you UP? I saw up a midwife for the first half, until I decided to UP/UC.
Are you telling others about your UC plans? I did in the beginning, and now I just tell people I'm having a homebirth. If they continue to press the issue, I might mention it, but really, I talked and talked and talked about it to others and now I'm just ready to DO it, and then talk about it.
Have you UCed before? No, but I aimed natural for both of my previous labors. The first ended with my daughter headbutting into part of my pelvis and having to be pulled out with forceps (oh man, did I beat myself up for that), and the second was a natural hospital birth. I know both of them would have been much quicker and easier if I would have been comfortable in my atmosphere- a home like place and no strangers hovering over me.

About your family:
How old is your significant other? 26
How long have you been with your s.o.? 6 years.
How many children do you currently have? Three, including this one that has yet to make his appearance!
Will your older children be present for the birth: Maybe, depends.

Will you/do you:
Co-Sleep? Yes
Wear your baby? I'm a big wrap fan!
Cloth-diaper? No. We talked about it, but I wanted to make sure I could keep up with the laundry and other chores I have already.
Breastfeed? Absolutely.
Vaccinate your baby? Definitely NOT.
Circumcise your baby? I sure hope not!
Homeschool? Hip Hip Hurray for Homeschool!
Follow a special diet? We (the kids and I) were on a vegetarian diet for a couple months until I started having severe meat-cravings this pregnancy. We eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and keep meat to small servings.

Will you/do you:
Watch TV? Yes, probably a lot more in these last days of pregnancy... mainly kiddy movies.
Sign with your baby? No
Read to your newborn? Well, I read to my 4 and 2 year old, so it is likely this baby will be read to as a newborn as well.
Work outside the home? No, although sometimes I help out at the restaurant we own... but that's rare.
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? Definitely not.
Recycle? I try. Our area is just now getting into recycling. I cannot believe it's taken them this long.

Own or foster pets? We did have a puppy, but she was stolen. We decided to get another dog (already housetrained) when things settle down around here and we have some sort of routine (after the baby is born).
Follow a religion? Christianity.
Encourage higher education? Sure, but I don't believe college is for everyone.
Generally support union activity? Umm, I am ignorant on that topic (ditto)
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? Sometimes... if I'm aware of what's going on.

Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys? We have a few. We don't like to have a load of toys.. and if we do have them, we'd prefer they be of good, lasting quality.
Toy guns? Well, my son has made everything from sticks to shoes into "guns"... so it's not like it really helps.
Other toy weapons? I suppose, if you consider toy saws and screwdrivers!
Branded characters? Yes- My son loves Cars and my daughter loves Ariel.

Are you a feminist? Not really.
City, Town or Rural? City, but its more "town"-ish.
Do you vote? Sometimes
Where do you fall politically? Conservative.
Use a pacifier with your baby? Had one with my first child, not with my second. Not opposed to them.
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? Sure. Why not?

Christian Texan Mama to Merika (5/2005), Nolyn (1/2007), Keagan (UC baby 9/2007), Four miscarried lovelies, and sweet Evangeline Rose who arrived 9/7/2010 (home/water birth).  Expecting our fifth blessing March 2012! Viva la Vegan Pregnancy, my friends!

Aw, I missed part of it and I'm the guilty party who resurrected it in a fit of insomnia/loneliness/insecurity last night.

I'm loving these answers and the chance to get to know everyone a bit better, though, so thank you so much for responding.

Here's the parts I forgot:

Will you/do you:

Watch TV? I DESPISE it and was TV free from 1996-2007, when I had to start working outside the home and landed a job as a care provider for a quadriplegic; sadly, as long as I am in this line of work, me (and bean in utero) will be bombarded by the brain-destroying slime that pours out of those things. It SERIOUSLY gives me nightmares, especially if I go straight to sleep after work. Scrubbing colostomy bags doesn't phase me, but the teevee makes me want to find a different field of employment.

Sign with your baby? I so want to learn and hope I am able to. It was just too far from the mainstream when the teens were babies, so I haven't yet and it fascinates me to think about knowing, even rudimentarily, what goes on in such a young person's mind. Even if all s/he can muster is signs for "hungry", "cold", and "need to potty" (yes, I'm going to try EC as best I can) it will make all of our lives so much easier.

Read to your newborn? I read to my 16 week old fetus and have no intention of stopping when s/he is born.

Work outside the home? I have to. I'm a single mama by choice, so no child support, and I already went through savings/inheritance with the big kiddos. I want to be a SAHM again so bad it makes me cry, but I just don't see how it could happen.

Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? Day care, yes; see above; nothing I can do about it. I hope to figure out something as far as radical unschooling/WAHM/taking him/her with me, or staggering work schedules with the big kids so that bean and the grandbabies won't have to go to public schools.

Recycle? Yes

Own or foster pets? I have an elderly red abyssinian who I have a love/hate relationship with. I hate the fact that I can't take care of her properly and do not intend to get a new pet after she shuffles off this earthly plane.

Follow a religion? Nope. I have respect for and an interest in Wicca and other forms of paganism, but I deconverted from xtianity too recently and my wounds are still too raw for me to be interested in any sort of organized religion.

Encourage higher education? Um....EFF YEA!!!! I've starved and gone without heat to pay big dd's tuition and went back to school for a nw degree briefly before I found out that I was pregnant with Bean.

Generally support union activity? Yes

Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? Absolutely. I try to buy local whenever possible and do my best to boycot both K-Mart and Target, although sometimes it's imposible to avoid them both.

Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys? YUCK!!!! I hope I'm more assertive about keeping them out of my house than I was with the big kids, at least at first. It helps that I'm a "nontraditional" mom and don't expect to be inundated with anywhere near as many unwanted gifts this time around.

Toy guns? Absolutely not for my toddlers/preschoolers. ds did eventually have toy guns and yes, he did bite his toast into the shape of a gun before I allowed the toys. For quite some time, I told him that my house was Switzerland and no guns were allowed on my property even though he did have some at exy's house and at friends' houses.

Other toy weapons? Not for children. My teenaged son does own swords "for decorative purposes" and if I have another son who is that interested, I think i will say "not until you are thirteen".

Branded characters? Absolutely not. I caved with the big kids and it was a mistake.

Are you a feminist? In the immortal words of Andrea Dworkin, I'm a radical feminist, not the fun kind. I try to keep it down to a dull roar here, because most of you are not at an appropriate stage of life to listen to some of my more "out there" ideas, but I was kind of embarassed when some of you found my Xanga during a crisis that was going on with my RadFem circle. Bean's gender matters VERY much to me and will make a huge difference in the direction my life will take over the next ten or twenty years, but I'm trying to be philosophical about it and my son and other special "honorary sons" in my life will, undoubtedly, keep me from ever being as much of a separatist as I sometimes wish I could be.

City, Town or Rural? small town
Do you vote? Yes
Where do you fall politically? I'm a registered Green and somewhat active in my local Green Party. I was beginning to label myself "socialist", mostly in response to insults from conservatives who would try to flame me by saying, "That sounds like SOCIALISM!", but big dd came back from a year away from home as a confirmed anarchist and introduced me to CrimeThinc and many other anarchist publications and ideas that rang true to me. We have never argued about politics. I also find many ideas I respect from my Libertarian friends, so I've kind of given up labels for now.
Use a pacifier with your baby? Not no way, not no how....oh yea, day care...scratch that and let's just stick with "I sure hope not and I never even considered it for the big kids"

Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? Big kids never wanted or needed them, but I remember thinking a lot about what Phoenix would choose, as I have fond memories of my own "lovies", which I continued to carry and play with and think about far longer than I would ever admit. Bean's life will be different and in a lot of ways harsher than the big kids' and if it is necessary for him/her to attach him/herself to an inanimate object, I can't see forbidding it or taking it away from him/her.

Are you/did you UP? I had a mostly UPed 1st pregnancy-- just one doctor check at eight months to reassure family members.
Are you telling others about your UC plans? No way
Have you UCed before? We tried with our first, three years ago, but we didn't have THIS wonderful resource then, so we transferred.

About your family:
How old is your significant other? 24, same age as me
How long have you been with your s.o.? nearly 6 years
How many children do you currently have? two
Will your older children be present for the birth: haven't considered it yet, as we're not pregnant again yet

Will you/do you:
Co-Sleep? Absolutely, I love cosleeping. We all share a bedroom.
Wear your baby? Yup, we try for continuum conspet parenting
Cloth-diaper? um, depends. I keep falling off the cloth-diaper bandwagon. :
Breastfeed? Oh absolutely
Vaccinate your baby? No
Circumcise your baby? NO NO NO
Homeschool? unschoolers here
Follow a special diet? I'm on a refined-sweetener-free, gluten-free diet, and we follow a fairly traditional omniverous diet.

Will you/do you:
Watch TV? A little bit, but we prefer reading to each other. No cable here.
Sign with your baby? No
Read to your newborn? Not really, but they'll hear the older children be read to.
Work outside the home? No
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? No
Recycle? IT's not offered in our city currently so no.
Own or foster pets? One little blue fish lives here.
Follow a religion? Yes, we belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Encourage higher education? Sure, if they want to-- although it's not the only way to success in life, it is ONE way.
Generally support union activity? Eh, I don't know, not really, I guess. No problem with unions in theory, but I don't like the ones I've had experience with.
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? We try to boycott China for human right's reasons.

Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys? We have some. Not many.
Toy guns? We don't have any right now but I would be okay with it, with some rules.
Branded characters? A little bit is fine. In moderation.

Are you a feminist? No
City, Town or Rural? Suburban neighborhood close to downtown
Do you vote? I do, definitely politically active
Where do you fall politically? Independent conservative, NOT Republican
Use a pacifier with your baby? No
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? Of course, if they wanted to, but neither has yet.

How old are you? 30
Where are you? New England
Are you currently PG? Yes, fourth baby
Are you/did you UP? This is my second UP
Are you telling others about your UC plans? Anyone close to us at all just assumes, I don't tell strangers in the street though
Have you UCed before? Three times

About your family:
How old is your significant other? 33
How long have you been with your s.o.? Together 9 years, married 6
How many children do you currently have? Three
Will your older children be present for the birth: Probably, but we're playing it by ear. The toddler probably not... but again, that all depends

Will you/do you:
Co-Sleep? We currently have a family bed and baby will fit right in
Wear your baby? Do and will
Cloth-diaper? Used to, don't currently since our apt has no W&D; thinking of EC for the next baby (I've done it in the past but never full time or very successfully)
Breastfeed? Do and will tandem nurse
Vaccinate your baby? Never
Circumcise your baby? NO
Homeschool? unschoolers here
Follow a special diet? Been vegetarian about one year now; this is my first pregnancy as a veg

Will you/do you:
Watch TV? Yep
Sign with your baby? Have and will
Read to your newborn? Not really
Work outside the home? No
Send baby/child to daycare or preschool? No
Recycle? Yep
Own or foster pets? Apt doesn't allow them but have in the past and will again someday
Follow a religion? Progressive liberal Christianity
Encourage higher education? I don't plan to encourage any one path, but support them in the paths they choose - which might include university or might not.
Generally support union activity? I think that like many things, as an idea it's awesome. And served a purpose. Not sure how it plays out IRL in the present day... could be great, could be bad. Maybe a little of both. I really don't know.
Boycott companies or countries for human rights reasons (such as formula promotion)? Yep, Nestle and Nike for instance

Baby posessions:
Plastic baby toys? We have some
Toy guns? Well, not for the baby. Do they make infant guns? But we do have some water guns in the house and a cap gun, and would allow others. My Dds haven't ever put it on their list LOL
Other toy weapons? I don't have a problem with it. They just haven't asked for any so far, except a brief interest in light sabers.
Branded characters? If it's what they're into.

Are you a feminist? Depends on your definition. I believe in the full empowerment of men and women, and the deep appreciation of masculine and feminine characteristics (whatever sex they show up in)
City, Town or Rural? Rural by choice, but currently we live right off a town
Do you vote? Yep
Where do you fall politically? Libertarian, will be registering Republican this year though so I can vote for Ron Paul
Use a pacifier with your baby? Nope
Allow DC to have a 'Lovie'? My son had a dolly with long realistic hair that gave him a lot of comfort in the car when he couldn't play with my hair... but so far that's the closest we've come. It was definitely a mama-substitute. If one of my kids did get attached to an object, I'd allow it.

Welcome to MDC and the UC Forum! I was home educated too. :

I also wanted to ask if you've visited our Circumcision board yet. There are many parents here that regret having had their sons circumcised; I know I wasn't aware of what a drastic operation it is until after discussing it with my (happily intact) husband and reading more about it here.

I remember seeing one comment: "Why would anyone want to have a part of a baby's penis cut off?" - and thinking to myself, "There's some obvious over-dramatization. It's not a part of the penis, it's just an extra flap of skin..." I was so wrong. It's a part of a baby's penis. A big part. I'm so glad to have learned about it before having babies. Not everyone here was that fortunate.
