Finnian Jett was born on 11-18, at 38 weeks 1 day, after weeks of a high leak. We transferred to the hospital right after he was born due to a huge flow of blood that wasn't slowing. The doctor estimated that I lost 2 and a half liters.

He never left my hands while we were at the hospital. One of the nurses hated us from the second that we got there and refused to let her take him to the nursery or put him in a hotbed. She later called CPS on me for waiving the standard newborn tests. Utter insanity.

The baby is beautiful, alert, rarely cries, and I think he drinks his weight in milk each day lol.

Congratulations! Hopefully you set the nurse and CPS straight concerning your legal rights so that you can get on to more important things - like nursing, snuglling, sleeping, and just enjoying your babymoon!

Thank you

Yes, she was well aware of my rights. She just didn't like them, or my awareness of them. Mostly she didn't like the fact that I was unbending in the fact that he is MY BABY not her patient, and that he was healthy and we were NOT there for him but strictly for me, so LEAVE HIM ALONE. As part of her complaint to CPS, this longtime labor/delivery nurse also claimed that I was endangering my baby because my placenta was still attached to me. 10 minutes after he was born. I really can see no option other than hatefulness and spite on her part.

The evil eye? By all means

Thank you all! He is wonderful, I am far better rested now than I was when I was pregnant (ironic eh), and I can't take my eyes off of him. He's going to grow up with a stalker complex because I stare at him sleep, stare at him awake, every expression makes me laugh, etc etc etc. Poor baby lol

Well, the CPS lady that came to my hospital room was pretty threatening in her demeanor. I didn't know until Greg told me later, that two deputies were sitting outside of my room while she was there. I can only draw the conclusion that they were expecting to take him from me. She thought I was a shady character based on my giving my present address to her when she asked- she told me that they had "another" (said in a suspicious tone) address for me. I asked if it happened to be an address from the nearby town that I used to live in, she said yes. I tried to point out that it was nothing more than an old address from a year and a half ago, nothing secret or anything, but she just said that I have trust issues with government employees. I was too flabbergasted to point out that no, I have trust issues with people who want to take my child away. Greg's sister happened to be there at the time, who used to work for this county's CPS and also used to be an NICU nurse. The CPS lady knew Greg's sister's name, I think that worked to our advantage.

Then they came to my house the day after we got home (they released us at 11:30 pm). They were much nicer, and dropped all threatening type or suspicious behaviour after a couple of minutes. They seemed satisfied, and told me that part of the complaint was the fact that my placenta was still attached (10 minutes after birth- the L&D nurse had to know that was perfectly normal). I explained that even in the hospital that was just normal, and they left. I feel like I am under scrutiny now though.

Congratulations! I'm sorry about the CPS involvement; it sounds scary. I'm glad they were nicer when they came to your house.

I too got more sleep after dd was born. Too much pain at the end of pregnancy to sleep well!

Congrats again.

Congratulations!! WELL DONE sticking to your guns... and knowing your guns, for that matter!

Sorry you've had to endure so much hooey.... Since they're there and they're in your face, think of it as the AWESOME PR job you just did for other UC mamas in your area! Who knows what kind of positive impact you've made on your local CPS... of course, that crazy nurse is something else entirely. Let's all give her the evil eye together, shall we? Do we have an evil eye smiley? .. I'll use that one for now! :
