My video has suddenly reappeared!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMaAfakqHpo

I ended up writing 3 letters to them (which they never responded to) but they reposted the video so it appears they've reconsidered their position, at least on this one! Hopefully it will stay up. Last week I tried posting it on LiveVideo (it was deleted within an hour) and myspace (it took them a day or two to take it down). Anyway, a minor triumph!

I watch that and think, how nuts is it that we make such a huge production out of birth. It can (and should) be so simple and wonderful.

They claimed it was "inappropriate" and violated their nudity/obscenity policy. I made a big fuss about it - wrote to their press department, threatened to contact the media (I've never threatened to contact the media before but I was angry). Other people wrote letters also - not just about this video but the many homebirth and breastfeeding videos that have been deleted. At least in my case, they responded. I haven't heard if any other videos have been reposted.

Now that it's back up I had several comments I needed to approve or reject. There were the usual obscene ones, but one person wrote that the video should have been flagged (which I believe it still is) not because of the nudity but because it promoted a dangerous practice - UC! I deleted that one.

watching this again was great! i can't believe it was flagged -- the first time we watched it, i even complained about having to sign in. dh was like, "c'mon, people are allowed to be uncomfortable. birth is really intense -- some people might have a hard time with that or not be ready for their kids to see it." bah! i say it just stigmatizes women, childbirth, and feminine power, not to mention perverting and hyper-sexualizing everything feminine. as though nudity is automatically sexual and therefor harmful to minors. people who look at that beautiful birth and see something obscene obviously have some kind of very screwed up issues with sexuality/women, imho. after all, there are plenty of hospital birth videos on youtube. but i guess since those women are in uncomfortable dressing gowns and being puppeted by drs. in the masks and gloves, cut in uncomfortable places, forced to push whether they want to or not -- all creating very dehumanizing experience if you ask me -- and the inherent sensuality/feminine divinity/power is taken from them, well, those are okay, right? : ::Puke :

sorry. i made the mistake of bouncing from this video to the hospital births it had in the little "related" box. i cannot imagine going anywhere near a hospital with my baby again unless it was life or death! okay, rant over. you may continue with your regularly scheduled thread.

It still works for me. Does it say it's been removed? If not, it could just be something with your computer or settings. You do need to be over 18 to view it, so if there's anything on your computer that blocks this sort of thing that might be the problem (although I'm sure you've over 18!).

Wow, you were much quieter than I was!! I made very loud, deep roaring sounds near the end...that's what felt natural to me.

I understand the desire to post this on the internet, but I'm not surprised that quite a few people took issue with it, though, since it's not only graphic visually but you sound like you're *really* enjoying it Most people can't handle a woman being comfortable with her body, let alone feeling pleasure while giving birth. It sounds like people are being stretched in a really healthy and empowering way, though. Right on, Laura!!

I thought it was great! It gives me confidence that I will be fine having this baby at home after all. It looked so natural....and while not "easy", it sure looked calm and natural. I am gonna refer back to it several times I have a feeling before I have this one, to remind myself how natural birth is!

Thanks, QuantumMama! But while I looked and sounded very much like this when I gave birth, this wasn't me. It's my friend Beatrice, who used to run the site breastandbelly.com. This was her second UC. Her first was in "A Clear Road to Birth" and looked very similar to this one (talking to baby as it was being born, calm, happy....).
