Does anybody have theories or information on why the number of peanut allergies has gotten WAY out of hand?
I never heard of anyone allergic to peanuts until about 5 years ago, now my kids can't take any peanut products to school and it seems like it's getting worse every day. What is causing this? Anybody know?
are you sure there are more? even if there are more i think that mainstream medicine has gotten more accepting of the idea of allergies. i was just having a conversation about that with my mom. my sister has severe peanut allergies, as well as walnuts, pecans, cashews, and fish. ( most other nuts except almonds)
when we were kids , my mom never got much supprt for my sisters allergies. for example my dad kept trying to slip my sister fish, and at school/daycare the teachers were pretty realxed about it as well. i think most people were very uneduacted about it. there werent all kinds of tests for them at the doctor like there are now ( my sister's daughter has inherited even more allergies ) and my mom said they never mentioned alergies could be the culprit of my sisters eczema when she was little, even though she broke out in hives and her tongue would swell up from the above mentioned foods...in other words , my mom now thinks my sis had even more allergies than she knew, cuz she never realised the chronic rashes could be allergy related.
anyway, if even one kid has this severe type of allergy, it is worthy of banning penuts from school becasue peanuts can kill some kids. my niece has a severe reaction to dairy...like even crumbs form a cheese- cracker can make her break out in severe hives. she ate a peanut once and had to be rushed to th hospital .
but on the other hand maybe there ARE indeed more kids with allergies, and i think pollution, chemical additives in food, etc etc are irritants and could create allregic babies in pregnant mothers...just my own theory....people eat really processed foods these days, i dont think it helps...
p.s i had a roomate that was just as allergice to peanuts, and i the mom of one of my friends could not eat any legumes ( including nuts) whatsoever....i think its actually pretty common...maybe it just never came up in conversation for you like is does for me since i have a sister with allergies????
