My dd (age2), Alethea (Lefa), is allergic to gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, peas, peanuts and eggplant and probably chocolate.

So we went to my mom and dad's for Halloween like we do every year. My sister, Auntie_Aya, age 20, was there also. I was already feeling a bit emotional because it is the first year we are trick-or-treating w/out my husband. And then, I forgot the baby's Yummy Earth suckers so was worried about how she was going to react when we got back to my parents house after trick-or-treating and her siblings started eating their loot.

We ate supper (parents made chicken, burgers and sweet potato fries for us and had watermelon and cantelope cut up as well and safe apple cider) then headed out the door. At the first house my sister said loudly, pointing to Lefa, "This little girl is allergic to chocolate, soy and corn, do you have anything that she can have?". I saw the neighbor had little flashlights for the kids, so assumed my sister knew that ahead of time so was just being funny. No. My sister had stayed up late making the corn free marshmellows, cut them up in little pieces, and put them in a baggie w/a label stapeled at the top that said "Ghost Poop" on one side, "Lefa Loot" on the other. She had made several of these. She had also been collecting small age appropriate toys for a few months and had "Lefa Loot" labels on them too. And she had bought a bag of Yummy Earth suckers and had put them in packs of two with a rubber band and a "Lefa Loot" label. During the day, before we came, she had gone door to door (about 30 houses) distributing these items so that Lefa got something she could have at just about every house she went to.

And then, to top it off, 3 different neighbors that we really don't even know, after getting the info from my sister, took it upon themselves to get a little something extra for Lefa. One woman had a ceramic black cat jack-o-lantern w/a handle, one woman had a small lavendar cardboard round box filled w/foam flower stickers. An older gentleman gave her a package of halloween stickers along with some colored paper.

I spent about 1/2 of the trick-or-treating time crying in the dark.

I hope you and all your little ones felt as much love tonight.

Happy Halloween,
Tracy

I am moved to tears with that story.

What an awesome thing for your sister to do. How wonderful that she figured out a way to show her love and support.

Children deserve the respect of puzzling it out.

I forgot to add that she also made rice crispie bars for us w/the corn free marshmellows and Ewehorn (sp) crispies! Rice Crispie bars are my favorite, and those are the first I've had in over a year!!!

Saw this in the New Posts, and had to respond.

What an awesome Aunty your little darling daughter has. I have 5 sisters, and I know for a fact that NONE of them would ever go to those lengths for my child to have a good time. I'm bawling right now. What your sister did was just so beyond awesome. You and your family are truly blessed to have someone so thoughtful and considerate.

So touching. I am crying here too... And people disagree when others say that siblings are a gift. Mine are the best thing my parents ever did for me - and they were really great parents. Seeing your siblings with your kids is just precious anyway - but something like what yours did tonight? Wow. What a special, special sister you have. Please write this story down in your dd's baby book or scrapbook right now while it is fresh in your mind so she can read the details of what happened when she is older.

if my kids wouldn't be worried, i'd be bawling right now... i had to stop reading your story and come back to it a couple times to get through it w/o crying.
you totally deserved that, Tracy, and so did Alethea.

I know what you mean, I can't even think about it w/out choking up.

For so long this was such a downer forum for me because our symptoms were so out of control. It feels good to put a positive story here, even if it does make people cry.
