DS (6.5 months) has always been prone to red chapped cheeks. Comes and goes though. Started solids about 3 weeks ago and he's doing well, likes them - spoon feeds himself some purees and does some BLW as well. Started butternut squash puree two days ago and he really like that one but the cheeks have been worse now (more red, a few puffy patches, a bit dry/scratchy feeling) and his sleep more disturbed and restless too. Now at the same time, he's also been drooling like crazy, blowing tons of raspberries, etc.

Might this be a reaction to the butternut squash? If so, would there be any other foods he might likely react to? I did buy some calendula cream (California Baby) to put on it to heal.

ETA - I make all his food if that matters to this issue...

I should add - skin looks fine everywhere else - no diaper rash or anus circle, chest and all good, etc. Poops normal enough as well.

BTW - saw ped today (was there for something else for DD) and he thinks it's not likely from the food and probably a teething/drooling thing. But I've never really trusted Peds on food allergy issues! So all thoughts appreciated.

I would try withholding the squash puree for a little while to see if the symptoms clear up. When they clear up, I would try it again (just to make sure it wasn't a "fluke" and it wasn't teething).

Yea he's only had pears so far today and will only give avocado and carrots at dinner. Will see what happens. BTW, this is the same one I discussed with you in the other thread about his negative reaction to the amber teething necklace!

Thanks again

I thought I recognized you from somewhere!
Did you get the other necklace and did it help?

eta: our boys are only a week apart, btw

I did get the hazelwood necklace. Didn't seem to cause any adverse reaction but didn't seem to help either so have it off for now while I try to figure this out. He gobbled up avocado and carrots tonight and now hasn't had squash since about 5pm yesterday so we'll see... I think will give him a lukewarm bath before bed (no soap) and cover him with Cetaphil and then his face with the calendula before bed.

Cool that they are only a week apart!

No squash in over 36 hours now and have put on the calendula a few times. Rash not totally gone but definitely a lot better and had a better (for him) night of sleep after two really bad/restless ones.

Don't give him squash and consult an immunologist and take his suggestion about what you should do now.
