I started getting itchy watery eyes Tuesday morning and it progressed worse and worse. By that evening, my eye was shut and I had yellow/green discharge coming out of it. I had already made a doctors appointment for the following morning and figured I'd cancel it if my home remedies worked. I got online and searched for home remedies. My midwife suggested a red raspberry leaf tea compress, or to squirt some breastmilk in there(I have a 7 week old baby) Some of my google searches revealed that contact solution made for soft lenses works, as well as eyebright tincture. My mom swears by mixing goldenseal with some petroleum jelly and rubbing it in your eye. That has worked well in the past but I didn't have any goldenseal and wasn't near a health food store. I did have eyebright though. So, I mixed eyebright tincture, breastmilk and contact solution and put it in a syringe. I squirted a few drops in my eye for the first day and by the next morning, it was better, but I still didn't think I was in the clear with just home remedies, so I made a trip to the doctor. After 2 25 dollar copays(one for me, one for DS, as he would have had to be seen by the doc to get a script) and 3 prescriptions written later, I found myself at walgreens, waiting for an hour to get mine filled. I come back after lunch and playing with DS and the pharmicisit informs me that the prescription for eye drops are $60 with insurance. I just couldn't stomach that. So I passed. I figured I'll keep trying the home remedy. By the next morning my eye was almost back to normal. This evening its just slightly pink and the discharge and pufffiness is gone. I also took 25,000iu of Vitamin D and up to 4000mg vitamin C. Just thought I'd share. I coulda skipped the doc completely. Oh well!
