Hey all,

My five year old is having some digestive issues and I am concerned. He has always had loose stools, but in the past couple of weeks he has had diarhea everyday and it is causing him to have some slight rectal bleeding. He says his belly hurts. :(

We stopped doing dairy, just in case and I mad an appointment with his doctor for Thursday.

I am just wondering if it sounds like a food allergy. Any ideas for other foods that could cause a child to have diarhea everyday?

I am worried that he has Crohns disease like his father.

Possibly an intolerance to something.  GI issues are usually associated with that more than allergies.  With a family history I would want to see a ped. GI.  Maybe check into Celiac as well.  Chronic diarrhea is often associated with it.

FWIW, my food allergic son had crazy BM's till he was 4. After removing all his allergens and getting dx with Celiac they were still not normal.  We finally got him on a good probiotic and THAT finally did the trick!

Thanks. I started him on a probiotic last week. We visited the doctor today and she thinks he may actually be constipated. She felt his belly and his colon feels like it is full of poop. She says that he is just having loose stools all of the time because it is all that can go through at this point. We had an x ray of the colon and will talk with the doctor again tomorrow for specifics.
