I was going to bump up this http://www.mothering.com/community/t/1346933/thick-poop-in-breastfed-newborn-need-thoughts-pls because I’m experiencing a very similar situation with my 8mo, but my situation is slightly different so here's my own thread. redface.gif So my son has very thick peanut butter consistency poop, when he does poop.  And more often than not it’s very very small amounts and they usually don’t even make it to the diaper.  In my situation this is concerning mostly because the poops are accompanied by a rash (or perhaps fissures).  He’s not straining really, but he *immediately* has bloody sores on his bum, it is so horrible.  It does heal and go away quickly but it is NOT cool, it hurts him quite a bit.

Right now I’m trying to figure out if he’s having an allergy or intolerance.  He’s mostly EBF but he has been introduced to solids mostly in the form of fruit and veggies and a bit of yogurt. My 3 yo has issues (although I’m not sure if they’re considered allergies at this point) with egg, some tomatoes, salmon, spinach, maybe food coloring, maybe funky preservatives so we’ve been trying to keep the 8 mo on a pretty simple introductory diet.  A little back story – at his 6m visit with the doctor I mentioned mucousy stools and she said unless there were other symptoms like reflux, irritability, sleep issues then they generally didn’t worry too much about poop.  So that was fine and dandy until this new poop situation started, and now I need to really understand the problem and find a solution.  Also, I should note that he appears to be allergic to spinach just like my older son.

What would you all suggest?  We just went a week without feeding him anything except breastmilk and he didn’t poop until day 6, and when he finally did it was just a very small amount of the thick stuff.  And in the past maybe 14 days then he’s only had a small amount of puree (pea, broccoli, pear) and some yogurt melts.

Anyone know what we’re dealing with here?  Dairy intolerance maybe?  Am I overacting?

Thanks!
