I'm looking for some information about kids who have allergies to food colorings. I have a strong suspicion that my 2 year old son has a sensitivity to red food coloring. He is allergic to peanuts, dairy and eggs, and we manage that pretty well. But now he is showing crazy behavioral symptoms whenever he eats anything with red food coloring. I thought I was just imagining it, or that it was terrible twos, or his emotional tank wasn't full or something. But I took him off of red stuff and he went from a belligerent, hyperactive little boy who threw a couple of full blown tantrums a day (completely unheard of for him), who was jerking and twitching in his sleep when I nursed him down, to the sweet, mild mannered, untantrumy little boy I've always known. On the food coloring, it was almost like he couldn't control himself; things that he would normally be able to handle emotionally were affecting him in a disproportionate way. Are these the usual side effects in kids who have a sensitivity to food colorings? Is it just an emotional/behavioral effect, or are there physical effects as well? Just looking for information and others who are dealing with this. Thanks.

My son had an allergy to food dyes too (along with many other allergies). THey were not typical allergy signs, he would act out hyper, or he would scream and cry for no reason. He even banged his head into glass when he would eat sugar. I heard of N.A.E.T which is an allergy elimination technique through acupressure. It will desensitize the body of allergens so you will exept it into your body. Go to www.naet.com for more info and they even have a practioners list. Good luck.
