I strongly suspect my ds (age 5) has a mold allergy, along with his dairy & citrus allergies/sensitivities. He has a range of physical & behavioral symptoms. Physical - dark circles under eyes, rashes, hives, sniffling, cough/sneeze, eye irritation. Behavioral - hyperactivity, inattention, inability to focus, melt downs. When we put up our live xmas tree & brought down the decorations from the attic he was hyper like I have never seen before for days. When I was taking down the tree he broke out in hives. He seems particularly troubled in wet/snow weather. We live near the ocean, so it is often damp here.

I have been reading up a lot on allergies and it would be really helpful to hear from some MDCers who either have mold allergies, or who have children who do. In particular, your symptoms & how you treat/prevent it.

TIA!

I'm not going to be a whole lot of help, as I haven't been treating our mold allergies. I would reccomend seeing an allergest. There are treatments available to help. "Is This Your Child?" is a good book on allergies, written by Doris Rapp, M.D.

Personally, I am allergic to mold, dust, and pollen--I break out, sneeze, itch, get plugged sinus, get headaches, etc... I have suspected the allergy in my son who also has the dark undereye circles and runny nose, although we haven't had to deal with any severe behavioral issues as of yet (probably why I have put off seeking treatments). We try to keep our house as dry as possible to prevent mold growth (humid summers here in Minnesota). We put a dehumidifier in our basement and it seems to help.

I hope someone else has some other ideas for you! Good luck!
