Don't be afraid to take pictures. I found, looking back at all the pics from the year, it did something to me I can't explain. So many emotions. Not the least of which was pride at how far we'd come after seeing the worst ones. I wish I'd taken more.

Have you tried Elecare?
Our GI told us (not sure if it's true) that it's the highest elemental formula you can get. We tried several other elementals (including neocate) before switching to this one. None of the others worked at all.

CS is drinking the formula herself, not giving it to her daughter.

On my birthday a few weeks ago I was so depressed I sent my husband out to buy vegan wine, which at least is not made with any casein or egg whites. It was hard to find, but he finally found some at Whole Foods. It wasn't the best wine I've had, but it was worth it at the time (and I don't think she reacted )!

Nope, haven't tried that one. What do they mean by highest elemental- like the most broken down?

Oh- I just looked it up and remembered why we haven't tried the Elecare- it's made from corn syrup solids. I'm pretty sure that's what we've reacted to in the other formulas. The E028 is the only one that doesn't have it AFAIK.

(I'm not sure why I reacted to the E028 the last time I tried it... I think I might have been taking supplements too, so it might not have been the formula at all.)

Ugh- me too. Fortunately, this glass of wine was for a happier occasion- it was a mentor reception at the law school. I felt all grown up mingling with real-life attorneys, and felt like I needed a glass of wine in my hand to prove that I was grown up too. (I'm 32 BTW.... )

Yeah, like it's the most elemental out of the group of elementals.
Although, it being made with corn syrup solids doesn't help you much if you're allergic to corn. That's a bummer.

Why did I think that wine was made from grapes?
I don't drink wine, but I do drink port, and it hasn't bothered me (dairy-wise or egg-wise). How do you even find out the ingredients in alcohol anyway?

Kathy- some white wines (and beers) are 'washed' with egg white for clarity or something... I don't know about how casein gets in there. But I knew DD would react to it... we have grapes AND brewer's yeast on our bad list.

So far so good... DD was itching her face last night after dinner. It's either the broccoli she ate (which is the only food she's eating right now, every day) which I doubt, or it's just the last of the wine irritation coming out.

I had to beg and plead for the healthcare company to send me some more E028 (so it would be covered by my insurance), and it should be here today! Otherwise I will run out this afternoon. But if it actually shows up, I will probably do just the formula through the weekend (oh- and broccoli; I figured if DD is still eating it, I might as well too) and then I will SLOWLY start adding foods back in next week and continue the formula to get my calories and nutrients. I'm really hoping that we will hit baseline this weekend so that I don't have to revise that plan.

Just a note... I tried to edit the thread title so that it didn't say "sad news" any more.... it changed on the thread, but not in the forum. Just in case anyone was wondering why it said sad news when it's no longer sad news.

I think you can change it if you go "advanced" on the edit.

I did- and it only changed it within the thread itself. For some reason, it didn't change in the forum or my CP. I posted a question about it, and a mod changed it (partially) for me, and then I noticed it still had the sad face, so I asked her to change that to the thumbs-up... and then I noticed that she didn't completely change the title, but I didn't want to bug her any more.

OMG mamas- just a quick update (since DD woke up) as we're running out the door.

Her chin still has one crusty spot, but her cheeks are almost completely clear!!! I can't believe this! I guess I just gave up too soon on this stuff last time I tried it.

I will try to remember to post some pictures later. I'm just so happy and scared (that my dreams will be dashed once again).... AAAAGGGHHH!! Have to go do something to take my mind off of it.

Ok... so just 4 hours later, and her chin is slightly oozy. Cheeks are still beautiful though. But I think we might cut out the broccoli for a few days. damn. That was the only food that I was pretty sure she was ok with!!

I just got my shipment from UPS... they sent me 24 boxes (not even 3 days worth.) I called to see why I didn't get the full shipment, and they said they're waiting on insurance authorization. I said fine, but this will only last me until Monday, and if you don't get authorization until Monday and ship more then, I will already be out of them for 2 days before I get the shipment. : He said he will check on it and try to get more sent out today. These people are driving me nuts.

Well, she's definitely having a reaction. : I just don't get it.

Is it possible for her to be ok with broccoli when she eats it, but NOT ok with it when I eat it? Because seriously, that is the only thing that changed yesterday- I ate 2 florets of broccoli and she ate 1. Every day before that I ate nothing (except the formula), and she ate 1 floret of broccoli.

I am really about to lose it over here. Her face looked so fabulous last night, and tonight her chin is all bubbly and oozy. And the cheek that just got clear looks like it's starting to bubble a tiny bit. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's better by the morning.

The only other option is that it's still leftover reaction from the glass of wine I had on Tuesday night. But that seems weird that it would take 3 days before the skin reaction appeared. (Especially because the diaper rash showed up the next morning, and she slept like crap immediately- that night and the next. And slept much better last night.)

I'm trying to remain hopeful.... but I'm painfully close to the edge of sanity ATM.

What about the possibility that she's reacting to YOUR reaction to it? You know how she can react to histamine levels in your body? People always bring this up when it comes to strawberries. Perhaps you're body isn't tolerating it and she's reacting to that, even though broc doesn't bother her directly?

Don't lose hope yet. There HAS to be a reason she was getting better. After all this time, it can't just be coincidence. Keep on going, cut the broccoli and see where it leads. Will the new formula be to you soon?
