My husband (31 yrs old) chipped a tooth yesterday. Not bad...just a small chip. But it left his tooth sharp, so I guess he should go in to get it checked out...?

Anyway, he hasn't been to a dentist in over ten years. And I'm concerned about his going now, and maybe these fears are silly, maybe someone can help me out.

My concerns are that a professional cleaning now, after skipping the dentist for so many years (although he brushes twice a day,) might lead to other health problems, such as heart trouble.

His father died of heart-related problems, which started directly after a long over-due cleaning. He and his family are convinced the two events are somehow connected.

Is there any validity to this concern?

Thank you.
