Our dentist doesn't like to pull teeth, which I'm glad for. But he just told us that he thinks ds (almost 7) would be a good candidate for dental expanders since his mouth is so small and he has permanent teeth coming with no where to fit. I've found a lot that discusses the top/upper expanders and I think I'm ok with that, but what about the expanders for the lower jaw? How do they work? Are they successful? I'd love to hear anything you know upper or lower!
I'd like to bump this because my 6 year old has significant lower tooth crowding, his dentist is suggesting orthodontics with possible extraction, and I am interested to know others' experiences with less interventive approaches to this problem.
P.S. Also interested in ALF, cranio-sacral, nutritional, and other alternatives to surgery.
I know there are more natural ways of doing it now and if I had known then, I probably would have given them a try. But at this point I have no regrets and she doesn't really even remember it. But I do have a tiny purple with silver glitter expander :-)
We did go ahead and get the expanders for ds. So far they do seem to be working and ds has no complaints. He even reminds me when they need to be tightened. The dentist is still considering an extraction, but it would only be on a baby tooth that isn't loosening. I'm not sure about that yet, but things are definitely moving!
