So here is our background: My 21 month old kiddo chipped her tooth about 4 months (17 months) back when she fell on a wooden toy. This seemed reasonable, and caused no pain. Then the tooth NEXT to that one chipped without any reason- no fall. Then the original chip crumbled or chipped again, without any fall or obvious reason. At the time of the second chip I took her to a dentist which said it was likely fractured from the original fall, no worries. Then the third chip, when her original chip crumbled further, I took her to a second dentist who said it could be early decay- weak enamel. Use xylitol & fluoride paste. Brush well. Stop night nursing.
Well, we tried to night wean. But it just wasn't working, so we have cut down the all night pacifying nursing. And we try to rinse with water in the AM and brush as well as we can. We are using the xylitol, but not fluoride.
Well, I asked both dentists if her lip tie could be the cause. They said no.
Now I have contacted a lip tie specialist, and my ND- both said to revise it ASAP given her decay. Her teeth are decaying in the way most lip tied babies decay. I look at a website by Dr. Kotlow, with photos of decay that are identical to my kids. It looks like notching in the front two top teeth. She has night nursed, which may have made this progress faster. The lip tie causes everything, breast milk- food- etc to get caught up there in her top lip.
I have a revision scheduled for about a month out, and we are 99% sure we want to revise unless I find any really strong reason NOT to. My ND, who is quite conservative with interventions, and the ENT both say Versed (a benzo) is totally safe and this revision is necessary for her dental health (and speech, and comfort brushing!)

So, now my question is. Once the revision is done (and even before, I want to start NOW!) What can I do to remineralize her teeth, halt decay? She has lost approx 1/3 or so of both top front teeth and it is slightly soft which tells me it is active decay. Two dentists said it is really minor at this point, and no intervention like pulling or a root canal is necessary (yet)- I am sure I think it is worse than it is. So I realllllyyyy want to stop the decay before it does get worse. Either way, I think nothing will really work until we get the lip tie revised, but I want to do as much as possible in the next 3 weeks until that appointment and then continue after .

So far this is what I am doing:
-I am using xylitol paste (spry) 2-5 x a day, at least on those front two teeth. (She will HARDLY let me brush or get in there, I have heard this is common with a lip tie & her age). Usually after brushing.
-I am brushing as good as I can 3-5x a day, letting her chew on the brush also, and wiping at least the front teeth with a cloth. I usually rinse with water when she wakes after nursing, then wipe & brush. Then rinse after every nursing as well. Then I brush & rinse with water after breakfast, after lunch and before bed.

- I have completely cut out grains, and we are doing meat-eggs-veggies-goat yogurt/milk/cheese- butter- ghee- coconut oil- avocado- broth. Limiting fruit. Limiting starch. No added sugars. No grains. Luckily this was not far off from our diet before, and she loves these types of foods.

- I am giving FCLO or CLO 2x a day, hoping to get a total of 1-2tsp.

- Giving 1,000 IU vitamin d. Some vitamin C (hoping for 250) in her breakfast. HCL Probiotic.

Here is what I am researching to add in:

-MI Paste (the fluoride free one),

-a remineralizing toothpaste to brush with (coconut oil, calcium carb, xylitol maybe??) or maybe just brushing with plain coconut oil (??),
- A mineral supplement. Something to maybe increase her Calcium, Phosphorous, Magnesium. I have read these are common thing to help remineralize teeth.
- Trying to night wean, at least cut down. This something I want to do anyway, because she is 21 months/30 pounds and will nurse ALL night long (I am a human pacifier) if she is allowed.
- Getting the lip tie revised.

Any experience with mineral supplements, remineralizing teeth, MI paste, homemade toothpaste, lip ties, diet changes?

Sorry this is so long.

Any info is appreciated!

Have you been successful in stopping or slowing down the decay? While continuing to night nurse? I'm facing maybe night weaning my 14 month old.. And I'm heartbroken, but would love to hear if you were successful.
