I have been told that I need to have my excessive tori removed. They are almost touching under my tongue and my tongue is being forced up which is causing other problems. I have been told I have this because I clinch at night and the bone gorws to support the stress/tension.
I was wondering if anyone has this or has had the surgery and how I can plan this surgery between nursing this child and getting preg. with my 2nd. And how long after I have this surgery till I can get pregnant safely?
Interesting. I have this too. I remember it growing when I was a little girl but I never knew why. I don't have any experience with the removal, although I'd presume that it wouldn't impact ttc. What are you concerned about as far as that goes?
I hope you'll update; I'm very interested to know how this goes for you. Have you had any other issues caused by clinching?
I was worried about the medicine they willmost likely give me and it's impact on my body, then getting pregnant. I also have really bad tmj and neck problems, and a whole slew of problems that are probably realted...itching ears, etc.
Did they let you know that manipulating your jaw during surgery can make you TMJ worse and the mandibular tori ( thats what they are called) can grow back?
I have never heard the reason they grow is because of clenching I was always taught they dont know why the overgrow. usualy chenching causes bone degeneration not growth.
The surgery sounds gruesome but its not as bad as it sounds. Your mouth will be REALLY sore for a couple weeks but depending on how bad your symptoms are now is whether its worth it or not.
You could do it while nursing the drugs would be no worse then getting wisdom teeth extracted.
Before doing anything I would get 2 more opinions from non affiliated dentists/oral surgeons and I would definatly have a board certified Oral surgeon do the surgery NOT a general dentist.
