Hello everyone. I have been here for a while but I usually don't have a whole lot of time to post. But, I do need your wisdom.

My 12 month old has had a congested cough off and on for a couple of months now. I thought most of it was due to so much extra saliva from teething. Almost everyday his shirt is soaked through. He is slow to get his teeth.

I also wondered if it could be from allergies or a cold that keeps reacurring.

I am having problems with my ins. company paying the dr. visits so I haven't taken him (I don't want to unless it is serious and I don't think it is).

has anyone else had this congestion with their child just from teething?

Thanks in advance!1

My youngest dd broke through 4 teeth all at once. She was very congested (had to sleep propped up) and runny nose. I really dont think it was a cold but just from the teething though some dont believe thats true. Having lived through 2 weeks of teething I reaaly do believe that teething brings on cold like syptoms.

Am curios to see what other have to say.

Hi all~ I just posted on this subject myself a few days ago. My baby boy (5 months ) just cut his first tooth and the second is half way cut. He has a slight runny nose and a very congested cough. He actually wakes up in the night with coughing fits that last up to 3 or 4 minutes. Poor baby! My hunch is that its not teething, although that might have been the origin of his problems. Lotus got a clear runny nose when his first tooth was coming in, but then it seems to have gone down to his lungs and gotten infected. I can tell you what the ped. will likely say as well~ having been through the chronic congested cough with 2 babes. It seems my ped. has only 3 meds in her arsenal: antibiotics, albuterol through a nebulizer, and the steroid prednisone as a last resort. I have been unhappy with the results as well as the side effects: thrush, jitters, elevated heart rate.... etc.
I'm having a hell of a time kicking his cough, but i'll tell you some things that have helped...
~Eliminating all dairy and most wheat from my diet (he's exclusively breast fed, so this carries over to him)
~Steamy showers
~ I lay him on my lap with his head slightly lower than his body and pound lightly on his back for as long as he's into it. Then when you sit him up, as the mucous will be loosened, enourage him to cough by doing so yourself and getting him to imitate. This works best in the morning when the congestion is usually worse.
~ The homeopath Antimonium Tartaricum works well with my 5 year old dd when she has "a wet cough with difficulty expectorating." I can tell if it's working within a day or two because the snot that was in her lungs starts pouring out of her nose. It's harmless with no side effects and kids usually like em because they are combined with sugar.
Ill be interested to hear what other mamas have to say on this topic as well.
Hope this helps.

Love~ Sarah

my ped suggested saline nose drops (Little Noses), several drops, several times a 11 week son's 5 week cough cleared in less than a week

don't you love it when coughing triggers throwing-up?! It was a definite laundry situation
