Dd (16 months old) has been eating all day long for a couple days, so we assumed a growth spurt was occuring. Then last night, she was cranky when we put her to bed and kept saying "leg" over and over while crying. She didn't appear to be having a charley horse - her crying wasn't immediate-severe pain crying. It was more nagging pain / discomfort type crying. I rubbed her legs a little and she finally drifted off to sleep. This morning, she woke up crying again at 5:30 and wouldn't get back in bed (she's never done this - usually she wakes very happy and calm and wants to lay in bed a long time and nurse and cuddle). She's been crying off and on all morning and is now napping. I wonder if they can experience leg pain during a growth spurt. I used to have a lot of leg pain as a kid, but I don't remember it happening this young. Anyone ever had this happen with your toddler?

Well, I was going to say "absolutely". Because my brother had them. I remember when he was younger my mother would put him in a hot bath to soothe his muscles. She called them "growing pains". He was a young boy then, not a toddler.

Of course, there was no "proof" that these were from growing and not some other cause. But they did eventually stop before he was a teenager, IIRC.

I've always heard there is no thing as growing pains, but I remember as a kid there being times when my legs ached for no reason. At the time I remember it distinctly feeling exactly like that's what was happening - my legs were growing and felt kind of sore all the way down.

Well, last night she said "Mummy, leg and finger itchy itchy." So now I don't know what to think. She does have mild excema, so maybe that's what it is. Who knows.

I had those horrible leg aches in my lower legs and ankles when I was a kid too.
