so we are looking for shoes for the summer (GOD do i hate looking for shoes for toddlers! last year was SUCH a trial...!!!). i think we are good for a few weeks-to-months on his soft star sandals from last summer that were too big (and yay! because they are so cute!) for regular play, but what about for water play? most everything that is soft-soled for toddlers seems to be made of leather. has anyone found something nice for kids to wear in the sprinklers or on the beach or in the pond? i am cool with him being barefoot, but there are definitely going to be times that shoes-that-can-get-wet would be really really nice.

i have checked out keens, and they are cute, but they seem pretty hard-soled..

anybody have any good finds? i guess we would be willing to spend.. gah.. up to about $45 or so?? (i try not to think about how much toddler shoes cost... sigh)

How about something like this? I don't know how flexible these soles are but I remember having shoes like that as a kid for the summer and they were a lot more flexible than regular shoes.

I just got dd these: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/shoe...II+Sandals.jsp exact same style but pink with designs on it, so cuter than all black :P Anyway, in the picture they don't look so great, but I could bend them in half pretty easily with one hand.

Have you tried zappos.com &/or endless.com? I have a bunch of toddler shoes from them right now -- free shipping both ways. I have some Teva "psychlone" sandals and some salt water sandals -- not sure if either would have a flexible enough sole for you, but I like them both. The Tevas run really big, and the salt waters are quite narrow (haven't been able to try them on my wide foot boy yet). Both in the $35-40 range.

good luck!

what about crocks, or a crock-like imitation?
they are not so great for every day wear, but they work very, very well for wet and muddy play
we have something like this http://www.payless.com/store/product...playName=Boys+

Most water shoes are pretty darn flexible to begin with. Personally, I love the crocs I have for DS - go in the water, hose off if/when they get muddy, close toed, etc.

I found these water socks and thought they seemed like they would work good as soft soled shoes in the summer to wear around water.

I always wanted to try those too.

BTW, I love Soft Star Shoes! I like that they come in bigger sizes. My 3 year old can still wear soft soled shoes.

We're looking too.

So you mamas really recommend the crocs? I'm always afraid that they aren't supportive/safe for running. I watch the kids and they are always kicking 'em off or they are flying off.

Yeah, it tends to bring flames... Really I don't go to Walmart often. Just specific things like that. I don't think I am there more than once every couple months. Superstore though ...

Those are perfect! Paying shipping annoys me though. I will probably get them anyway

I got DD a pair of these this year. They work well for a daily sandal as well as specifically for playing in water, although I did notice her feet were kinda sweaty when I took them off. She doesn't seem to mind though.
