Hello
I am reading in these forums that vitamin d is a critical supplement in fighting off colds and flues, and I would like to supplement my 1 year old with vitamin d drops. He already gets 1/2 teaspoon of CLO daily, and we don't breastfeed any longer.
Is it harmful to give too much vitamin d? And what brand would be best for my 1 year old? Thank you.
Do you live in a very cloudy place? It only takes like 10-15 min in sunlight to get a good amount of vit d, and that also includes just getting direct sunlight through the windows in your house or car. There are also so many foods that are fortified with it and that naturally have vit d that a supplement may not really be necessary.
Yes, there is such thing as vitamin d toxicity, causing a buildup of calcium in your blood so you may want to research that before giving your child supplements. It probably takes a lot to get to that point but in a small child, you never know.
We do carlsons baby D's also. Actually, I give the kids 1 drop probably 3-4 times a week, then give the same ones to DH (7 or so drops) and myself (4 drops). We had all of our levels tested a few weeks ago. DH has very low levels (15), I am moderate but okay (23), and DD is normal (30) so I keep that in mind when dosing us.
