Blocks (the multi-shape wooden ones), a doll, and a ball. I could entertain her all day with those three things.

Wife to DH (06/10) and Mummy to DD (07/08).

Blocks, a dumptruck to put the blocks into, and a ride on toy.

My 1 and 3 year old each have small ride ons for inside the house (long winters) and they can ride them and chase each other for hours.

Hmmm, if books count then books, books, books would be our DD's choice. She does not care for cars or dolls and is only tangentially interested in blocks.

After books, she plays with variations of what is essentially a dollhouse for toddlers.

We have:

Little People House
Fairy Shoe Cottage
Batcave
Rocketship from i-play

so, any of those plus a ball for sure. If I have a pick left,

Hasbro Ball Popper

Yes this is a lot of plastic. What can I say - it's what she loves.

If books count, it would be Saturday With Mez, Everything Grows, and Sheep in a Jeep.

If not, it would be a playsilk, a ball, and a drum.

3 is tough, but probably a truck, blocks and a ball. I would add in a doll if I was allowed 4 though and playsilks as number 5. If books are included then books, truck and ball.

A drum, a chalkboard (is that a toy?) and a truck (since if he could answer, it would be truck, truck, and truck.)

I think we have the same kid. DS would answer red truck, yellow truck, blue truck.

I'd go for... um...

Truck (big enough to put random objects in), blocks, and can I say play kitchen? Or is that an assortment of toys?

Me+DH+DS1+DS2+Dog=me and a house full of guys, which is really just peachy, thanks.

Ball, crayons, paper. If crayons and paper count as one, then I would add ride-on "bike".

We'd get the most mileage out of

ride-on
ball
plane - it's what he loves

DS, 10/07. Allergies: peanut, egg, wheat. We've added dairy back in. And taken it back out again. It causes sandpaper skin with itchy patches and thrashing during sleep. Due w/ #2 late April, 2012.

Do books and art supplies count as toys? If so, I would add a stuffed animal or doll. If not, I would include something to push or ride and a play set (Playmobil, Little People, Legos, animals, etc.).

Of course, the above assumes that the LO has access to a lot of non-toys. DD spends at least half of her time playing with things other than toys (kitchen items, boxes, pillows/cushions, etc.).

I don't know about three, but there is one in particular that she is in ove with right now. It a little touch leappad by leap frog. They don't make them anymore but sell them on ebay along with the many books that go with it. Yes, it's a battery operated thing, but she loves pressing the touch pad to hear all of the words and sounds that go with the story or theme. I didn't think it would be that much of a hit. Seh cal play with it by herself or we can sit together and play and talk about what we are seeing and hearing. It's great. Some of the stories have songs, too.

Dice, markers or crayons, & a stuffed doll or animal.

DD uses her small play silks as security blankets, otherwise I'd have to include that, too

right now it's this broken car steering wheel toy, a broken computer keyboard, and his "special handle." (a small black plastic fire hose to his fire fighter playset) He uses all these things combined to play "driving" where one of us types things like our destination on the keyboard and the other drives the steering wheel and holds the handle. it's kind of like Mr. Peabody's WABAC machine.
hours
and
hours
we spend doing this. it's all he wants to play now.

Doll, wagon/trolley (some sort of thing she can load other stuff into and push around), large blocks

Assuming that books are not considered toys, and that household objects aren't considered off limits If those were the only three things that I bought specifically for DD I think we'd do fine.

I sort of went through this exercise when we went on vacation last summer for a month. Of course, this added in the extra restriction of baggage space (eliminating blocks and wagon). We brought with us lots of books, a doll, a blanket, and some crayons/paper. And we were fine for the month. Lots of playing outside, lots of playing with things around the house. It just goes to show you how little you really need ...
