I was wondering if there are any good books on what to expect in the toddler years.. Especially in the transition from baby to toddler. I've never really been around children, so I'm not sure what to look for. What games/songs/activities at what ages? I just don't know!

I threw out my "What To Expect in the First Year" book because I found it outdated and offensive... so if anyone can recommend a book that is more AP-friendly, that would be great!

I have "Making the Terrible Twos Terrific" by John Rosemond. He's not super AP, but this book does recommend gentle discipline and more parent proactivity (anticipating certain types of behavior and deciding what you're going to do in response ahead of time). It's not the greatest book, but I found it somewhat helpful in better understanding my kid.

I really like The Emotional Life of the Toddler, but it is not a how-to book per se, such as giving advice on what to do or suggestions for games, etc., but it does go into how toddlers think, which I find fascinating. I also like Building Healthy Minds, by Stanley Greenspan, and that again is more about what goes on psychologically and intellectually with them. I like anything that goes into what the thought processes of a child might be because the more I understand about why they're behaving the way they are the more I can approach a situation rationally and calmly and, I think, more fairly.
