Does anyone know what this could mean? We just received a call from our peds office telling us that her platelets are low and that they want to recheck in 4 weeks.
Platelets are needed for clotting.
My father had low platelets for a while. His numbers got better with a macrobiotic diet. Finally I think they figured out that his spleen is bigger than normal, so some of his platelets that you would expect to be in his blood are hanging out in his spleen instead.
If you google it there's lots of reasons why they could be low. Hopefully it's not anything serious. Definitely get the retest.
A very low platelet count could be a sign of a clotting disorder, but I'm not sure of the treatment. Definitely double-check at the next visit and decide a plan of action from there.
Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. ~Dylan Thomas
