My daughter is 25 months. She's been sporadically using the toilet for pee and poop for a few months and seems to be happy to do so. She knows when she needs a diaper change and will tell me. She's very verbal, understands what the toilet is for, and doesn't show any sign of being afraid of the potty. So we decided to give potty training a go. We went straight to underwear and talked a lot about what that means. She spent about 3 hours tonight in undies before bed.

I'm not concerned at all about her peering in her undies. I know that's a normal part of learning. But in the first 90 minutes she peed in her undies 5 times, peed again immediately after when I put her on the toilet, and peed several more times in the toilet when I put her onabout 10 minutes after she last went.

Is this typical, and I can expect that soon she'll learn to consolidate all this peeing into less frequent trips to the toilet, or is this high frequency of peeing an indication that she's not physically ready to hold it and make it to the bathroom?

Any experience you've had would be very helpful as I consider whether to keep going or try again after a while!

Based on our EC experience with DS, I'd say it sounds like she's just experimenting with control, playing around with sensations and muscles and letting it out a little at a time - seeing if she can stop it and hold it back, etc.  She's probably very aware that underwear is a game-changer, and so she's trying to see if/how she can control stopping and starting.  Alot of potty-training is building that control and self-awareness.

It seems very normal to me, actually pretty encouraging! thumb.gif

Great! And thanks for the input. Today has been better. Lots of accidents, but several times she's peed a little in her underwear then stopped. Her eyes got big, and she said, "Just a little bit!" and we were able to quickly get her on the toilet to finish. I'm hoping this means things are headed in the right direction. smile.gif
